Lots of anger regarding a football player to deal with.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:35 (five years ago) link
it's when it's your only Plan B that it becomes a problem
how many plans do you imagine the average manager has
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:35 (five years ago) link
hes greatfootball is great cant wait for the 48 team fifa world cups
― nxd, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:36 (five years ago) link
xp one plan and a solid backup option seems like pretty good going to me

fellaini player manager knocking out spain in the round of 32 2k22
― nxd, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:37 (five years ago) link
problem with utd is not that Fellaini = a rubbish plan b, it's that your plan A is so shit to begin with
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:37 (five years ago) link
I feel like I'm talking to a wall here
― Number None, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:40 (five years ago) link
Don't you get it WD, despite the fact that Belgium is a country of 10 millions and with limited ressources they shouldn't play ever Fellaini ever because he represents the long post-Fergie decline of United.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:41 (five years ago) link
you are genuinely quite dense aren't you
― Number None, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:42 (five years ago) link
Perhaps yes, but I have the humility to face the fact that some more brillant football minds than you and I have used Fellaini in some high leverage footballing situations.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:43 (five years ago) link
FFS take this to an ILF thread

The cutrently highest-performing (male) American in world football will be center stage tomorrow for England-Colombia… your referee, Mark Geiger! Lolololol this could be fantastic.

Look it's not that Fellaini isn't legal it's just that his use speaks to the moral character of the user
― Meunier tear has to fall (Noodle Vague), Monday, 2 July 2018 21:47 (five years ago) link
Talking point of that game should not be about Manchester United imo.
― lefal junglist platton (wtev), Monday, 2 July 2018 21:48 (five years ago) link
idk NN i would quite like examples of these versatile teams that have two or more ways of breaking the opposition down
Fellaini is not good and you wouldnt ever want him to be your primary outlet, but i think when youre struggling to come up with ideas of how to win a game w/ 10 mins to go you could do worse than stick him on and kick it long to him. it isn't pretty but it obviously works, at least up to a point
repeating myself now but the problem with utd under their three consecutive underperforming managers is not Fellanini, it's there's been so little idea of how to win games by playing "properly" that you end up being reliant on a guy like Fellanini which apparently is beneath you
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:48 (five years ago) link
wow two consec mispellings i should probably check myself out
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:49 (five years ago) link
is this a 'play the game the right way' argument?

On another note, every time Clattenberg offers an opinion I immediately believe the opposite

Was thinking it would be weird to have six European teams and only two South American teams in the QF but it happened at the last WC in Europe too. So that's nice for England maybe.
― shaqiri tip (nashwan), Monday, 2 July 2018 21:53 (five years ago) link
yeah alright that seems fair i am more than done
xp i don't really understand clattenberg's role in proceedings anyway, they never actually ask him what he thinks until after the decision has been made
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:54 (five years ago) link
The Clattenburg reservoir of correct opinion has been drip draining for many years. He called in some drainage experts a couple of years ago but it looks like they sold him a pup.

― shaqiri tip (nashwan), Monday, 2 July 2018 21:58 (five years ago) link
I agree with most of your points Windsor, hence my frustration. Utd fans know that the team has been dysfunctional on a number of levels for some time now. Fellaini is just a symptom of that dysfunction - if a rather large and obvious one
I'm happy to leave it there, but the thread policing is super lame
― Number None, Monday, 2 July 2018 21:58 (five years ago) link
Sorry Number None I have been harsh, I just have some frustration myself when good not great players get swallowed by larger more powerful clubs and are misused there, a dude like Fellaini would probably fit better in my hometown-across-the-ocean club Bordeaux.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 22:01 (five years ago) link
Usually European teams do better in European hosted tournaments is my knee jerk pub go to but I might be statistically limp. So to say.
Sometimes knees jerk correctly.
― Alan Alba (Tom D.), Monday, 2 July 2018 22:03 (five years ago) link
LOL. Feel free to clog up the thread with a load of guff about whether Fellaini is guff or not guff.
― lefal junglist platton (wtev), Monday, 2 July 2018 22:04 (five years ago) link
Yeah it happened in 1998 also. So if England lose they fail science too.
― shaqiri tip (nashwan), Monday, 2 July 2018 22:04 (five years ago) link
We are discussing a player who scored a crucial goal in today's world cup fixture, give us a break.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 22:05 (five years ago) link
Good news for non-european teams (and so for the sake of football imo) is that we ain't seeing a WC in Europe until at least 2030.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 2 July 2018 22:06 (five years ago) link

i remember fellaini was good and effective as a central mid when utd bought him
admittedly that everton team had one trick themselves

Yes, just like the use of any other football player in the world speaks of the moral character of the user...
Come now. Fellaini is a quality player. No matter how horrible his manager is. Or rather DESPITE how horrible his manager is. Lest we forget: this dude shone under both Moyes and Mou, it takes a really strong man to be able to do that etc. Moyes and Mou as bosses and still play ok. We're not worthy, lads.
