Not sure where else to put this but here, but more ripple effects from SESTA/FOSTA:

A podcast host pretending he was Sen. Bob Menendez tried prank-calling the President — and it workedhttps://t.co/zF49oxIjQH

wait, did trump really think Menendez was from North Dakota or was that a typo?

i looked up the podcast, it mostly appears to suck but i skipped around and found the call around 1 hr 6 minutes

he knows who Macron is, probably generally thinks France stands in for all of Europe. no other countries have fries, so they don't count as real.

kelp, clam and carrion (sic), Friday, 29 June 2018 18:49 (seven years ago)

Come on. France and Europe are two completely different countries. Lots of people are saying it.

Whenever you're trying to assess Trump's thinking, it helps to assume his level of understanding wrt most things is about on par with a dog of medium intelligence.

Like, I'd be genuinely impressed if he could point to Europe on a map without assistance.

why would anyone be carrying around an empty shell casing from a cannon, and why would protestors be interested in seeing one

I'd told my kids we were going to the march/protest tomorrow, and they didn't really say much (that's just what mom and do every few months). But I learned today that on her own my older kid convinced a couple of her friends to come, too, and they're apparently getting together tonight to make signs. It's a win-win: protest and crafts! Not a bad two-for for summer vacation.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:12 (seven years ago)

Trophy from shooting a man in Pocatello just to watch him die, iirc.

Making Plans For Sturgill (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 29 June 2018 19:15 (seven years ago)

I guess mentioning ammo is implied violence but she's specifically citing a) spent ammo and b) ammo that you couldn't use to shoot anybody anyway, unless you happen to have a military aircraft or a cannon, which is kinda weird in itself

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:15 (seven years ago)

I guess one of the kid's signs says artillery? maybe that's what she's referring to. implying that these kids don't know the difference between military artillery (which she apparently carries around in her truck for some reason? to remind her of past military conflicts?) and assault weapons?

it's a me, mario iirc

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 29 June 2018 19:23 (seven years ago)

maybe it's one of those "gotcha!" things where she *wants* people to respond like it's a threat just so she can turn around and say "lol u morans, don't you know what an empty 30mm shell is, I just wanted to show them this cool military souvenir"

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:24 (seven years ago)

i figured it was her letting them know she’d been shot at. a dick move no matter what

maura, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:26 (seven years ago)

she's specifically citing a) spent ammo

Maybe she looked at her reference to a 30mm shell just before posting and thought “I’d better not make it look like I mean anything violent here” and added the word “empty” before it

Karl Malone, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:27 (seven years ago)

That round is so big you could hurt someone just throwing it at them.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

well it would definitely be illegal for her to be carting around a live 30mm shell. it's the size of a fucking coke bottle.

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

weird how my dog is several states away and I can still hear it barking

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 29 June 2018 19:32 (seven years ago)

Do you think I should show these girls my bloodstained chainsaw that’s out of fuel?

Karl Malone, Friday, 29 June 2018 19:34 (seven years ago)

The statement, like the shell, is empty.

Kinda wish she'd gone through with it. "Look, you naïve anti-gun kids, here's a thing that used to be ammunition! SEE? Now doesn't that change your mind about everything you _thought_ you knew?"

Meanwhile the kids are looking at her, looking at the shell, looking at each other, and going "So what?"

And she's like "But don't you get it? Look! It's a shell! And I even know the proper way to refer to it, which is by its diameter!"

"Um, whatever, lady. We still don't think dying is cool."

"But but but, it's a SHELL. And it was in my TRUCK. Wake UP, sheeple!"

For anyone that believes Robert Mueller knows all, I just saw it reported that the feds were tipped off to the existence of Manafort's storage locker by a journalist.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 29 June 2018 20:27 (seven years ago)

sort of - AP journos were asking Feds if they knew about Manafort's storage locker, which turned out to be the first time the Feds had heard of it.

first day of testimony in Manafort's trial, bound to be tons of stuff like this coming out

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 20:28 (seven years ago)

I think that was pre-Mueller, too?

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 20:28 (seven years ago)

yeah, April 2017, about a month before Mueller's appointment

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 June 2018 20:30 (seven years ago)

Mueller's investigators work within a different set of rules than investigative journalists, so it's not surprising a journo could hear things they haven't heard. I'm happy to hear the journo shared notes with them.

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 29 June 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)

that's not exactly what happened (as noted) but the real reason this is significant is because the House GOP has been accusing the FBI of leaking news of the locker (among other things) to AP - when it turns out something closer to the reverse happened.
