sic that Scott Thompson quote I posted is from an interview where he decries how much he is ignored/ostracized by the larger gay community, despite being relatively famous (on various hit TV shows, etc.) so jed's not knowing who he is has a certain irony

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:51 (seven years ago)

on TV shows in North America

no Larry Sanders or Kids in the Hall in the UK? huh

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:09 (seven years ago)

I bought clothes for my partner once or twice but the fit is hard so I would rather drag him into a store while we are out and pull things out that I think look good.

Yerac, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:09 (seven years ago)

I know who he is now from podcasts, have never seen an episode of Kids In The Hall, which AFAIK never aired in Australia. watched Larry Sanders dedicatedly, but didn't have any wider context for "the guy who played Hank's assistant after Darlene"

(Larry Dean is the only gay Glaswegian comedian I can think of, because I've seen him do spots in Sydney.)

I would stick with "gay" (for example: a girlfriend meets a coworker and says "oh wow he's cute and nice, is he single? Me: "yes to all, but he's gay" vs. "he's queer")

I don't want to dictate your use of terms like queer when you're just having a conversation with a girlfriend. I think it's just something to be mindful of around gay people, as in when you're addressing them directly, but I suppose if you said to someone else, "he's queer", they could then go "oh yeah quincie said you're queer", which apart from them being like "that bitch quincie!", they might feel a bit weird being referred to as queer. Sometimes it's their own insecurity that they're not comfortable with any of these descriptive terms, but sometimes it's for valid reasons that they don't want to be known as eg queer. I guess you could say the same about "gay" but there's a slight difference in historical usage, imo. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If in doubt and you know someone's gay, you could just ask them what they're comfortable with, if that's even necessary.

Just watched episode 2 and I'm very mad about Antoni's Morningstar slander.

Jonathan's "use those dexterous fingers" was delightful. He'd be a great elementary school teacher -- such specific praise!

geoffreyess, Friday, 29 June 2018 04:15 (seven years ago)

Jonathan just owns this interview. (Karamo draws on his hair??? why? He looks great bald.)

Yerac, Friday, 29 June 2018 07:19 (seven years ago)

I love Jonathan, he’s probably my fave. He just seems like the most authentic one.

just1n3, Friday, 29 June 2018 08:40 (seven years ago)

I’ve been wondering about the weird matt brown make-up on Karamo’s head all season.

Madchen, Friday, 29 June 2018 10:51 (seven years ago)

Me too. Weird.

As long as he doesn't go full Sagat:

O_o

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 29 June 2018 14:31 (seven years ago)

That jawline looks tatted too.

I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Friday, 29 June 2018 14:32 (seven years ago)

I was super confused about that part in the article but I get it now. Karamo had male pattern baldness and filled it in. But the others made him learn to love and accept himself so he shaved his head and is now embracing the bald.

Yerac, Friday, 29 June 2018 14:42 (seven years ago)

Johnathan went from being my least favorite cast member in S1 to my fave in S2 but I still think he's the worst at his job.

Fetchboy, Friday, 29 June 2018 17:23 (seven years ago)

Bobby and Tan are doing the heavy lifting tbh.

still haven't started season two but antoni is now my enemy

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Friday, 29 June 2018 17:38 (seven years ago)

18 yo songwriter Sean is terrifyingly beautiful and so self-possessed it's just not even fair. It is possible to be that 100% authentic and unguarded if you're a well-nurtured homeschooler uncorrupted by the whole idea of teenage-hood? Or is he secretly psychopathic?

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Friday, 29 June 2018 22:37 (seven years ago)

He seemed more off than well-nurtured.

Yerac, Friday, 29 June 2018 22:38 (seven years ago)

He was freaking me out until he started cooking an omelette.

Yerac, Friday, 29 June 2018 22:39 (seven years ago)

he was a character all right, buti don't agree with orbit's assessment, to put it mildly.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Friday, 29 June 2018 22:56 (seven years ago)

I was cringing so hard when they took him to paintball or laser tag whatever it was, and the guys had clearly set those teens up - “I like your necklace” “that is a great shirt” etc. he sounded like an AI character out of Black Mirror.

He seemed to loosen up a lot more near the end, once he saw his new place.

just1n3, Saturday, 30 June 2018 01:59 (seven years ago)

he was fine considering the fact of the adoption and the homeschooling and the big liza minelli-ish songs but it kinda seemed to be more about making him actually seem normal in an 18 yo way, obv. yeah, he was a talented guy tho and i wouldn't want all 18 yo's to conform to what 18 yo's are like, but still.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Saturday, 30 June 2018 03:04 (seven years ago)

It’s a shame Tan gave him the wardrobe of a 45-year-old.

Madchen, Saturday, 30 June 2018 06:20 (seven years ago)

He previously had the wardrobe of a seventy year-old, though, so I reckon Tan was meeting him halfway.

trishyb, Saturday, 30 June 2018 20:46 (seven years ago)

Liza Minelli is 72.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Saturday, 30 June 2018 20:53 (seven years ago)

those SEAN jackets were hysterical and awful and adorable

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 1 July 2018 00:19 (seven years ago)

If Burning Man dude didn't grow up with an emotionally abusive or unavailable hyperachieving father, I am ilx's most beloved poster.

Three Word Username, Saturday, 14 July 2018 19:46 (seven years ago)

Whose father from that decade wasn't like that?

Yerac, Saturday, 14 July 2018 19:50 (seven years ago)

The ones who didn't hyperachieve or who were emotionally available.

Three Word Username, Saturday, 14 July 2018 19:51 (seven years ago)

Ari the gamer dude has some kind of addiction problem. I know that style of lying all too well. Dunno whether it's gaming or the weed with roots in hell or something they kept out of the episode, but he's for sure an addict. He also had a look of sheer terror at certain points -- not just when he got caught in a lie -- that made that episode hard to watch.

Three Word Username, Monday, 16 July 2018 08:34 (seven years ago)

I was really curious if he chipped his tooth from eating sunflower seeds.

Yerac, Monday, 16 July 2018 09:35 (seven years ago)

Tan needs to stop making everyone do a french tuck.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 16 July 2018 16:17 (seven years ago)

Tan has some surprise super nice arms (as seen in the emmy instagram video).

Yerac, Monday, 16 July 2018 16:30 (seven years ago)

eight months pass...

Tan needs to stop making everyone do a french tuck.

I know this is his thing but one ep into s3 and I'm already screaming "NO MORE FRENCH TUCKS, GAWD!" at the screen.

Roz, Saturday, 16 March 2019 04:52 (seven years ago)

lol

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 March 2019 05:02 (seven years ago)

cried in the first episode WE’RE BACK BABY

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 March 2019 05:36 (seven years ago)

I felt like Rob, whose wife died and who was moving into a new house, could have used some Marie Kondo magic to help him thank his old house and his old stuff. An opportunity for a crossover episode if ever I saw one.

trishyb, Sunday, 17 March 2019 12:29 (seven years ago)

This show should go on forever. And I love, love they regularly don't just do straight men anymore.

Yerac, Sunday, 17 March 2019 16:54 (seven years ago)

yeah me too

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 17 March 2019 17:18 (seven years ago)

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 17 March 2019 21:45 (seven years ago)

The second ep. was so sad. Rob, the camp director, seemed a great human who'd totally given up on himself.

remy bean, Sunday, 17 March 2019 21:49 (seven years ago)

yeah def

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 17 March 2019 22:10 (seven years ago)

my eyes started leaking furiously during the jess episode
karamo finally did something useful and bobby got to take her to meet her sister <3
so tender

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 18 March 2019 23:52 (seven years ago)

i mean she had met her sister before but not for a long time -- "meet up with" more accurate if we are being nitpicky

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 18 March 2019 23:53 (seven years ago)

yeah that episode was so great

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 18 March 2019 23:57 (seven years ago)

yeah and i also love it whenever Bobby gets extended airtime - he just does so much and is so good at putting in little touches that reflect the client's personality and needs.

I'm up to the grieving dad episode and the engraved memory chest got me all choked up.

Roz, Tuesday, 19 March 2019 07:01 (seven years ago)

Only just started watching this (halfway through S1) but I’m amazed how much Bobby gets done in a few days!

The episode I watched last night was AJ coming out to his stepmum. Really lovely.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 19 March 2019 12:18 (seven years ago)

I saw that Janelle Monae tweeted at Jess. *hearts*

Yerac, Tuesday, 19 March 2019 12:19 (seven years ago)
