Just hang loose until the fallout has time to start really affecting people's lives. This is the kind of shit that radicalizes fairweather political dilettantes. Take note, GOP!

we all recall the anti vietnam war group The Weatherman

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:01 (seven years ago)

I seriously am disgusted with people who are still listening to /associating with their trump supporting family members/friends too. I cut that shit off right at the holiday after the election. One woman who got mad at me about being a "purist" said she needed her parents for childcare and they really loved the children. I was like life's a bitch, I am sure they are traumatizing your children while you are at work. That is exactly how that shit rolls.

It feels like an awful lot has been decided by smaller states with smaller impact on culture and the economy, by their countryside and by their suburbs.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:16 (seven years ago)

Set fire to the suburbs

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:17 (seven years ago)

^^I had the same response when they got Doug Ford elected here and imo it's a solid international strategy

Simon H., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:18 (seven years ago)

I think city people should really start using their economic impact to change things.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:19 (seven years ago)

it feels like an awful lot has been decided by one fucking idiotic man by the name of anthony kennedy

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:19 (seven years ago)

so... with McCain out, McConnell's majority is just 50-49. Seems like next course of action is to pressure every potential swing vote (Dem and Rep) to vote "no", since Blobfish can't afford to lose, say, both Collins (who does legit care about Roe v. Wade iirc) and Flake without picking up Heitkamp or Manchin.

I would think the Constitutionality of many of Manbaby's actions loom large over the Senate but idk

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:22 (seven years ago)

Collins legit cares about a lot of things, but will always vote against them anyway

I see a lot of news sites talking about some Latina woman beating Crowley last night, this may be weird but she doesn't appear to have a name ?????

I'm all for annexing and bulldozing as many unincorporated single-family areas as possible but there's tons of single-family zoning inside city limits that needs to be bulldozed first

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:28 (seven years ago)

Oh, when I advocated upthread about relentlessly hounding all elected GOP officials every waking minute of every day? I should've specified that this continues even after they're out of office, until the day they finally kick the bucket. These motherfuckers don't get to just ride off into the sunset and enjoy a peaceful retirement. Hell no. Demonize and marginalize every single goddamn one of them.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

so single-family homes are your scapegoat for US problems huh. Cool.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

city-states or bust

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

I was thinking more about strikes and blocking key infrastructure and financial infrastructure and show the american public that the GOP's entire notion that they represent order is entirely false.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:32 (seven years ago)

I mean also close down rural schools, ban private high school, ban homeschooling, re-educate the youth in the cities. Mandate robot farming.

Dem. Senator BLUMENTHAL: “The Senate should do nothing to artificially delay” consideration of next justice, but POTUS should take his time & make a centrist choice.

lol

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:34 (seven years ago)

For the sake of clarity, I would never propose escalation because the powerful usually wins escalations but at this point I would say it's self defence, the roll back on human rights is bound to be pretty nasty.

If the SC justice selection somehow gets miraculously dragged out until the Dems have the power to block any and all nominations and they subsequently fail/refuse to do so, fuck the Democratic Party forever imo.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:39 (seven years ago)

xpost. Three cheers for Harris, at least.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:41 (seven years ago)

Kamala Harris still wants to be president and she knows where her bread is buttered right now

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:41 (seven years ago)

Collins is a dumb asshole.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:42 (seven years ago)

I have no illusions that Harris is anything but a pragmatic former prosecutor who is maybe a scoche to the left of the latter DLC consensus but if she thinks the left Dem platform is a winner and can sell it I’m happy to have her running on it

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:44 (seven years ago)

Jesus fucking christ, Blumenthal is committing political malpractice with that statement.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:44 (seven years ago)

former is clearly the case, I am hopeful about the latter

xpost Don't worry, if the GOP maintains their majority, they'll behave so awfully that people will TOTALLY wake up and defect in droves. That will ABSOLUTELY happen, for sure.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:58 (seven years ago)

Kennedy retiring is bad for Dems in the midterms right? seems like the sort of thing that would drive GOP turnout up

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)

apparently turnout jumped way more dramatically in dem primaries than republican primaries yesterday so that's some hope. We need a crushing victory here, then total obstruction of Trump, then in 2020 we pack the court and or strip jurisdiction. Scorched earth.

Real devil's bargain at work there

Simon H., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:02 (seven years ago)

Was actually able to reach a staffer in Blumenthal’s office for whatever that’s worth.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:04 (seven years ago)

feel like Dems not only need to hammer on the Garland thing but also the whole "a POTUS who was elected by a foreign power and is under investigation for actively colluding with them should not get to nominate justices"

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:04 (seven years ago)

There is a laundry list of things they can hammer, they need to do their homework and check what resonates with who and target well.

agree, and the goal should be to lay the groundwork for either court-packing or jurisdiction stripping when we (hopefully) retake the senate and the white house. No more indignance for its own sake.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:22 (seven years ago)

wow this is amazingly bad

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:23 (seven years ago)

had to look up jurisdiction stripping (been a few years since I last re-read the Federalist Papers), seems like a more easily wielded tool than court-packing
