from a lawyer friend:
Democrats must insist that Justice Kennedy's seat will remain open as long as an illegitimate president would nominate his replacement. Hold the line.
― sleeve, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)
yeah they wont be doing any of that shit
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)
they can't even hold the line at disneyland

I know
― sleeve, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:07 (seven years ago)
at this point even the trump equivalent of harriet miers would maybe get one GOP senator to make some vague statements of "concern" and then vote yes anyway. the dems have no leverage, following mcconnell's gorsuch nuclear option. but since they can't actually stop a kennedy replacement, they might as well make sure everybody in the country hears what bullshit this is, and loudly.

Does Trump even have to bother with pardoning Cohen once he's a SC justice? Not sure how that works.

he dems have no leverage, following mcconnell's gorsuch nuclear optio
actually they have no leverage after Harry Reid eliminated the nuclear option. Remember? I'm not saying it wasn't the right thing to do.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:20 (seven years ago)
there's nothing the Dems can do to stop this. the best they can do is procedural delays.
― Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:21 (seven years ago)
and use it as a rallying point to try and take back the Senate, I guess
― Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:22 (seven years ago)
Every nominee should be targeted for assassination by antifa supersoldiers, if any are actually out there
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:22 (seven years ago)
yeah I asked in the other thread whether there was a realistic chance that kennedy's replacement could be appointed after midterms
― aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:22 (seven years ago)
god what an awful week this has been
― frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:23 (seven years ago)
thanks Justice Kennedy, that's the second or third time you've fucked america this week
― akm, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:25 (seven years ago)
Reid did not eliminate the nuclear option for Supreme Court justices - they were specifically excepted from the 2013 rule change. McConnell axed that when Dems filibustered on Gorsuch.

It’s really beyond time for everyone who has those conservative/racist relatives I’ve heard so much about to cut them out of their lives. And friends, bosses, children, coworkers. If you live in a Republican area, sacrifice your local ties and leave. Leave these fucking scum behind, they don’t get to enjoy your civil neighborliness anymore. Set fire to their lawns when you drive off.

Anyone who has supervisory authority over anyone should start monitoring social media of their employees. Fire your Trumpists. Eat the lawsuits. It’s your responsibility.
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:47 (seven years ago)
Interesting, if true: Jeff Flake says he will block Trump's judicial nominees until there's a vote on tariffs
― grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:48 (seven years ago)
Hey, maybe let's all agree to make every moment a GOP elected official spends outside of their home an absolute miserable slog which forces them to rethink the wisdom of ever going into politics in the first place, whaddaya say, gang.
― A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:48 (seven years ago)

Just hang loose until the fallout has time to start really affecting people's lives. This is the kind of shit that radicalizes fairweather political dilettantes. Take note, GOP!

I seriously am disgusted with people who are still listening to /associating with their trump supporting family members/friends too. I cut that shit off right at the holiday after the election. One woman who got mad at me about being a "purist" said she needed her parents for childcare and they really loved the children. I was like life's a bitch, I am sure they are traumatizing your children while you are at work. That is exactly how that shit rolls.
