Waiting for Trump to gloatingly RT that.

The likeminded comments on the Weigel thread are pretty funny. Some faves:

"This and the cancellation of Roseanne were really my last straws," Lesley Drummond, a blue collar Harrisburg Democrat said at a local Speedway."

"Time was, I voted against my party because of Nancy Pelosi. Then I voted against my party because of Hillary Clinton. This year I was ready to do it over Maxine Waters. But now I'm definitely against my party because this Bronx lady wants to send my kids to college. For free."

“I’ve been on the fence about Trump and concerned about his border policy’s heartbreaking family separation” said Brittney Soccermom of Wichita, “but when I heard some socialist lady in NYC wants healthcare for all, that’s where I draw the line.”

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:04 (seven years ago)

Along similar lines and in response to my question from yesterday, this was lifted directly from the front page of FT today:

At Harley's power-train plant in Wisconsin, support for the president seems unshaken by the prospect of job losses as the result of his tit-for-tat tariff war with rival economies. 'He wouldn't do it unless it needed to be done, he's a very smart businessman,' said one worker on a smoke break.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:09 (seven years ago)

Classic. I think we're getting closer to figuring out what Trump voters think!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:14 (seven years ago)

"His heart's in the right place, but he's new to this," says Stephanie McAllister, bouncing a sleepy infant cradled in her arms as she waits for a cup of coffee at the counter. "We should just give him some time." Still, not everything Trump says or does sits well with this suburban mom. "I really do wish he would tweet less," she says, furrowing her brow and absentmindedly patting her baby's back, coaxing out a disproportionate belch.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:18 (seven years ago)

'think'

I mean, that's basically the mentality of a cult member. Dude's pointless actions directly threaten the viability of your job and you still give him a big thumbs up and a smile.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:19 (seven years ago)

Give him time!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:20 (seven years ago)

In his final words as President Trump sat on his chest and drew the knife to his throat, Sixpack confidently said, 'I'm sure this is all for a good reason, he's very sma...'

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:21 (seven years ago)

Trump should see how many of his hardcore supporters he can get to hand over their firstborn. I'm guessing a percentage somewhere in the 90s.

A Frankenstein + A Dracula + A Mummy That's Been Werewolfed (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:24 (seven years ago)

Kayleigh McEnany knows what a primary is. She thinks left wins are good for the GOP. I think she’s wrong but let’s not fall into this trap of think they’re all dumb yokels again

idk kind of sounds like that was a post-hoc rationalization especially given that Trump explicitly said that Crowley lost because he wasn't nice enough to Trump. yokels until proven non yokels

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:28 (seven years ago)

'He wouldn't do it unless it needed to be done, he's a very smart businessman who has been bankrupted several times,' said one worker on a smoke break.

Arthur Funzonerelli (stevie), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:31 (seven years ago)

I realize from this vantage point that that's probably a nonstarter with his supporters, many of whom have probably suffered bankruptcies that they weren't able to bounce back from. The fact that he did so several times over makes him very, very smart.

very surprised by this development because from what i've read our President already achieved world peace .

HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD PASS THE STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL, KNOWN AS GOODLATTE II, IN THEIR AFTERNOON VOTE TODAY, EVEN THOUGH THE DEMS WON’T LET IT PASS IN THE SENATE. PASSAGE WILL SHOW THAT WE WANT STRONG BORDERS & SECURITY WHILE THE DEMS WANT OPEN BORDERS = CRIME. WIN!

Are a lot of regular Americans so dickmatized by Trump because he's, like, the one famous person that they've gotten near? It's like fucking Teenbeat with these interviewees.

Yerac, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:53 (seven years ago)

Not the Weigel satire but the piece on HD.

Yerac, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:54 (seven years ago)

I see a lot of news sites talking about some Latina woman beating Crowley last night, this may be weird but she doesn't appear to have a name ?????

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:57 (seven years ago)

Her name is Ofcrowley.

In college I read David Shields’ REMOTE, which is a collection of loosely connected mini-essays, and one of the recurring titles was “The Nimbus of [His/Her] Fame Makes a Nullity of Us All.” Been thinking about that title a lot these past few days.

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:09 (seven years ago)

(It was first used about Oprah.)

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:09 (seven years ago)

v v v proud of the organizers that made the ocasio-cortez win happen. crowley outraised her 10 to fucking 1 and they still beat his ass by double digits. that's a fucking ground game.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:17 (seven years ago)

xpost, I should find that book. I think there is a lot of freedom in not being in awe of or being impressed by any celebrity. I can find their creations interesting or joyful, but that's it. I think the only time I have considered snapping taking a pic with someone was because Weird Al was in my building and my bf from hs loved him so much I thought she would get a kick out of it. But I had a large ice coffee in my hand and didn't want to put it down to deal with my phone.

i've got to admit i'm finding the SC rulings on the muslim band and gerrymandering to be pretty bleak and depressing and hopeless

SCOOP: Former @FoxNews co-president Bill Shine is in final talks with @realDonaldTrump about becoming @WhiteHouse Communications Director. Announcement could be soon.

Democrats must insist that Justice Kennedy's seat will remain open as long as an illegitimate president would nominate his replacement. Hold the line.
