Panama had nothing but England have laboured or failed to beat some right dross in the last few World Cup group stages so this situation is still hugely encouraging. Most of the players are technically sound and have come up under serious tactically astute managers and Southgate seems to know what he's doing. He's also created a visibly relaxed atmosphere in the camp leading to none of the usual crippling stage fright.Once you got past the United, Chelsea, Arsenal and some of the Liverpool players, previous generations would look very threadbare and tactically rigid. They are still short of a proper playmaker in midfield and a couple of really good CBs but they'll do respectably enough. QFs seems likely.

A Panama legend scored their first ever world cup goal, of course they'd be happy even if going down. Euro dominance in dour, detached spectating continues unabashed.
