some garbage from the nyt
So who was the target of that not-so-hidden message? That the first lady had shed the jacket by the time she disembarked in Texas may indicate it was not, in fact, the families at the heart of the immigration issue. Besides, there are numerous alternative possibilities, when you start to think about it....Or maybe, just maybe, it was a message for those of us who like to read messages into her clothes. One that said, “I’m going to wear whatever I want and I don’t care what you think about it.” After all, she wore the jacket again deplaning later at Andrews — wore it unapologetically knowing all the hoo-ha it had caused, the confusion and umbrage, the distraction from what she said was her core message of compassion. Wore it as if to give direct proof to the words on her back. That would be kind of meta.

so maybe, just maybe, she finally decided to word-attack those of us who like to read messages into her clothes, and decided to do it on the way to the visit to the shelter, perceptions be damned, and then again later that day after it had already pissed off and confused. fuck the timing, this attack against the message readers of clothing must commence ASAP

Hey guys, maybe Melania Trump, who chose to marry one of the most wicked and repulsive people on earth, is also a bad person and, to the extent she’s ever discussed at all, should no longer receive the already far too generous benefit of the doubt
― Dan I., Friday, 22 June 2018 00:20 (eight years ago)

seen it posited elsewhere that the Trump admin is deliberately trying to provoke reactions at this point, between this, Ivanka's pic with her kid right as the baby jail story broke, and Miller & Nielsen going to eat at Mexican restaurants where they know they'll get shouted at. perhaps they saw the Sam Bee & Al Pacino stuff as wins for them and want to portray their opposition as vulgar, shouting animals, especially knowing that publications like the NYT will use it to "both sides" away the atrocities of this administration. seems plausible but then again, assuming these guys have a coherent shared plan at all is probably a mistake
― frogbs, Friday, 22 June 2018 02:35 (eight years ago)
These dudes have a super, highly researched and tested plan. Why the hell do you think they've been so successful?

idk when Bannon explains that they enacted the travel ban on a Friday afternoon to draw the maximum amount of protestors and Miller talks about how having Kiddie Concentration Camp all over the news is actually good for them it kinda makes me think that these guys may be doing this kind of shit deliberately
I mean I highly doubt that Melania is in on it but this jacket thing is just so mindboggling and strange given how deliberate it obviously was
― frogbs, Friday, 22 June 2018 03:04 (eight years ago)

Godspeed to everyone out there doxing ICE agents, setting up shop in their field offices and obstructing their operations

xp - except all the real fruits she enjoyed were well in place before Trump declared his candidacy. reports that she hates the WH and being FLOTUS seem very believable.

Until or unless she literally curb stomps Donnie boy no one should give a fuck about her imho
― Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 03:23 (eight years ago)
She is, by design, extremely peripheral to this administration, so yeah, whatever she is or does is probably beneath notice in terms of real US politics.
― A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:25 (eight years ago)
Her primary utility AFAICT is as a galvanizing icon of sociopathic obliviousness so maybe she should just keep it up

They obviously want to make the midterms about immigration/white fear because they 100% believe that's how they won two years ago and they don't understand it was ~also electoral college + Comey. Between now and November that administration is going to trigger plenty of shit of the kind we saw in the past few days, wouldn't be surprised if the african american crime rate is the next thing they will get at for example. It works because Fox has their back no matter what at this point, it keeps that fuckface on 24/7 news cycle, and it keeps the base motivated enough to have leadership GOP on the defensive (who wants to be the next Sanford). No healthy democracy should have such a thing as a large Trump base, to begin with so in normal circumstances it would be a stupid plan, but let's not pretend like they didn't struck gold and they don't have monstrous calculations on how to mine racism and xenophobia in the coming months/years for their benefits. Melania may be in or out of these calculations with her jacket moment (I think she was fwiw), it doesn't matter as much as the White House refusing to make a clear apology and them once again mining the moment and portraying Melania as some sort of conspiracy victim.

It’s kind of dumb to be like ‘immigrants worked minus my faith in the democratic strictures of an oligarchy’ re trump maybe they’ll hit black on black crime again for a greatest hits redux.’
Two things: immigrants aren’t going away, for either the right or the left. Dox ICE on your way to abolishing them. Write on their Facebook pages; their wives’ twitter; their registries. Worry their grandparents.
Second: That middle ground between 5d chess and dumbfoubdery is latching on to a faceless El Salvadoran who can be whoever the country wants: ms13; hope. That chimera has no longer and hasn’t been for some time a super predator in Chi. This is Trump’s play.
Either way, THE DISCOURSE eats its children — it’s a fucking shame that so many are children. Ramp it up, don’t stop, eat DHS.

A little extra background on Zara, makers of Melania's amazing lib-triggering dreamcoat:
• They had to recall a denim skirt that had a Pepe frog on it• They had to recall a striped shirt with a six-pointed yellow star on the chest• Jared Kushner owes Zara's parent company, Inditex, a lot of money - they have an interest in 666 Fifth Avenue
― grawlix (unperson), Friday, 22 June 2018 12:04 (eight years ago)
Zara is also a notorious knockoff fast-fashion label that steals from artists all the time because they (the smaller artists) rarely have the ability to sue
