That's a fair analysis.

It is good to see that righteous people in DC can still flash mob the secretary of DHS at a restaurant and walk away without bullshit arrests on bullshit charges. Thank fucking god for the little things.

Ugh, I'm sorry.

If nothing else, it is my job to actually be able to speak while I'm on TV.

What I was trying to do -- when I suddenly couldn't say/do anything -- was read this lede:

29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life. Today I renounce my membership in the Republican Party. It is fully the party of Trump.

i hear you, i'm not a big fan of internet-hyperbole, and i do want to be clear that i'm not necessarily talking about the leadership here - there isn't, and i pray to god won't, be sufficient evidence to allow for a direct worst-case comparison. i'm strictly talking Good Americans here, and in this particular case i do believe that a fearless moral reckoning is in order.

Recall that before Kirstjen Nielsen ran the Trump family separation policy, she was Senior Director for Preparedness and Response on the Bush White House's Homeland Security Council, where she ignored specific warnings in 2005 leading up to Katrina https://t.co/qFRf6IUkDW pic.twitter.com/FNl86V1w1S

6 stages of Trump

1) we don't have that policy
2) actually it was Obama's policy
3) okay maybe it is our policy, we need to do it to deter illegal immigration
4) we don't like the policy either, but have no choice because the Dems won't agree to fund our border wall
5) it's actually really offensive of you to get mad at us for putting kids in concentration camps, we're just following orders
6) womp womp

the lede from that link

WASHINGTON (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is drafting an executive action for President Donald Trump that would direct her department to keep families together in detention after they are detained crossing the border illegally, according to two people familiar with her thinking. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the effort before its official announcement.

eh they got what they wanted: half the country is frothing at the mouth in excitement over ripping brown kids away from their parents. and they'll get to say they "fixed" it. but we should still be doing it. but hey, at least they reversed what was *actually* obama's fault. but it's actually good. and needed.

and the next thing will be worse. and the chuds will enthusiastically cheer that, too. even though it was really obama's doing.

This was always the goal: hold on until the last, most excruciating moment, making sure that Congress got duly blamed, then sign an exec orer that makes Trump look like a hero to his racist base.

I'm so confused pt 2: weren't they just saying everything was fine, media was making something out of nothing? why would they need to make an executive order or have Congress pass a law to fix something that isn't broken??

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 20 June 2018 16:20 (eight years ago)

the important thing is that from the perspective of the border patrol, everything is fine and nothing has changed since 2014, these children are only detained for a couple hours, tops. they do hand them over to ICE and they have no idea what happens after that, but keep in mind that everything is fine and nothing has changed, from the border patrol's perspective.

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 20 June 2018 16:24 (eight years ago)

White globalist Steve Bannon hobnobbing with rightwingers in Italy and Hungary is making me think it’s not as much about immigration as we thought...
