i'm not saying we need to go full "hillbilly elegy" here, but i think a case could be made for the economic uncertainty engendered by reaganite capitalism causing widespread hardship. of course chuds are the same people who worked hardest to put reaganite capitalism into place, but i think the problem is less that they're not suffering than that they fundamentally lack both the knowledge and the critical thinking skills to understand the causes and possible solutions of that suffering.
