The President says Canadians come to the United States, buy shoes, scuff them up and smuggle them back to Canada.

— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) June 19, 2018

maura, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 16:56 (eight years ago)

Can't tell if that's a joke or not.
Also not sure what difference in price between the 2 sides of the border would be.

Sounds like , somebody buys something, uses it and tehn takes it home with them. Which is of course a crime since all Canucks are libtards innit?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:00 (eight years ago)

it's not a joke. it's part of a trade war rant

maura, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:02 (eight years ago)

A proud Canadian tradition

jmm, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:07 (eight years ago)

the use of the word "infest" (and "animals", recently) must really warm the hearts of his neo-nazi supporters. the president says that immigrants are infesting the nation and his top advisors advocate putting their kids in cages even after the rest of the world and most of his own citizens react in horror. neo-nazis don't have to read between the lines or look for little cues from trump anymore, they're out in pure daylight, unapologetically.

sorry, got a little nihilistic there but that is the world we live in

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:09 (eight years ago)

I find myself obsessively running thought experiments of what the president could say about immigrants that would be a breaking point, and and feeling panic that the answer is: nothing.

I'm just more baffled that they're still feigning innocence over trading in their dog whistles for air horns. Like, everyone knows what you're promoting, you fascist smeg golems.

When you've been gargling Israel's balls as long as the US has, quitting the UN Human Rights Council is just a formality.

The stuff about migrants to Europe 'violently changing the culture' of the nations who take them in is unadulterated neo-Nazism.

How's that Nobel Peace Prize nomination coming along though?

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:38 (eight years ago)

stephen miller is like the kid in high school that the jocks, nerds, band geeks, burnouts, can all agree sucks. great that he's found such a powerful position to focus on his niche interests

Right. Gee, what kind of niche interest can I imagine the kid that the jocks, nerds, band geeks and burnouts all hate picking up ...

Now that is what I'm talking about. If the economy/stock market remain relatively hale, I honestly feel like elections this year and even in 2020 could be a total toss-up because too many (incredibly fucking dumb) people will be hesitant about rocking the boat however plainly batshit the captain may be. So bring it on imo.

Gladys McFlatus (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:43 (eight years ago)

so much enraging shit happening but that Canadians buying shoes comment is really aggravating/revealing: you don't pay customs to the US on goods you buy there when you exit, you pay customs to Canada on goods you bring in from outside when you return. So he's pissed that Canadians are spending money in the US (plus sales tax) and then lying to their own govt about it to avoid paying duty tax.

rob, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 17:46 (eight years ago)

He literally understands nothing about how anything works but he reserves the right to become infuriated over his incorrect interpretation. A mental health professional would have to tell you exactly what that tendency is called, though.

idk seems like p standard old white guy entitled bullshit, i don't need to crack the dsm for that

Compromise: every ICE official gets locked in a cage, but they're allowed to call it whatever they want.

NEW: Rudy Giuliani tells HuffPost that FBI agents questioned him — in his suite at the Trump International Hotel -- about leaks that hurt the Clinton campaign. Story with @svdate: https://t.co/L8WMRRUxwX

That final paragraph:

“They said they were satisfied,” Giuliani said of the two agents who interviewed him. “If they want to interview me all over again? They can interview me all over again. ... Maybe they’ll come raid my office like Michael Cohen.”

Here's Trump hugging the flag for some reason

We know why he does it.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)

Him feeling the need to constantly bask in flag humping is so visually appalling.

Making Plans For Sturgill (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:07 (eight years ago)

just digesting trump's latest encyclical

- immigrants are criminals who are a danger to the countries they travel to
- in fact they are like insects
- democrats are encouraging these criminal insects to cross the border and infest America because they will end up voting democrat in elections and democrats know this
- i.e. democrats are actively encouraging crime and immigrant infestation for their own political gain

just want to make sure I've got that straight

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:10 (eight years ago)

Immigrants AND Canadians!

Making Plans For Sturgill (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:11 (eight years ago)

Well Trump has never been tat strong on history but that does sound like quite a good description of his family history doesn't it?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:12 (eight years ago)

he's one step away from calling democrats "kuffirs"

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:13 (eight years ago)

btw i always knew this display name would have legs, but i will admit being a little disappointed by how right i was

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:14 (eight years ago)

Tracer, you're an immigrant. What country are you infesting again? I am infesting one in SA.

xpost

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:30 (eight years ago)

can someone explain where these numbers are coming from cuz I'm seeing people read this as "5 out of 6 kids were being sent by human traffickers"

We must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very dangerous trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 19, 2018

frogbs, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:37 (eight years ago)

Truly convincing.

Just spent 1-on-1 time with Manuel Padilla, chief of Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley sector — the epicenter of separations.

He told me conditions in that processing center with cages are “not that bad,” he sees kids there smiling and he’s spoken with them about the World Cup.

— Jacob Soboroff (@jacobsoboroff) June 19, 2018

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:42 (eight years ago)

i can virtually guarantee that all of those numbers are completely fabricated

too gashly (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:47 (eight years ago)

also going to contemplate whether the "process" implied by "processing center" is or is not akin to the same root when used in the term "food processor"

too gashly (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:49 (eight years ago)

how much of this is a misapprehension of how this would play out in the court of public opinion and how much is calculated hostage-taking?

constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:51 (eight years ago)

yes

too gashly (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:51 (eight years ago)

or, more likely, is it just an opportunity to double-down, get approx half the voting public and major media players to carry their water, thereby creating a 'new normal'

constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 19:52 (eight years ago)

yea looks like "they're doing this to stop human trafficking" is starting to become the official right wing line, if Dilbert is to be trusted

You took the pro-child-trafficking side over the temporary cages side. There were only two options on the table. https://t.co/53zTFaOwug
