Ditto on respectful silences of any length since I feel my school uses them to show "respect" in lieu of any real change. Like when there were nation-wide school walkouts in support of gun reform, my school had a leadership-approved "minute of silence on the playground" to pre-empt the students doing anything, but the leadership knows that our surrounding community is conservative so they won't hold town halls or parent meetings or openly support anything that they can't cloak in vague language about "equity." It's a delicate dance and I appreciate what they have to do, but it's irritating as hell.

I didn't care about the World Cup until a certain publisher assigned the first 32 respondents countries and promised to send a big pile of books to the person with the winning nation. I got Switzerland, so I cared for a bit, but now I can go back to not caring.

I got really tired of FB reminding me about birthdays. I started to feel like if I put a note on one friend's wall, but forgot on another, I was being a bad friend, so i just started to ignore them altogether.

I personally haven't wanted to know about my birthdays since age 21, and I assume other adults feel similarly.

other peoples birthdays have turned into some kind of extortion racket. no thanks, i do not want to chip in for a weekend cottage in the highlands because you're 37 around then nor do i even wish have a reasonably expensive meal.

on the other hand birthdays are a good reason to reconnect with friends and for everyone to meet up and have fun based on the flimsy auspices of it being someone's birthday. I'm all for em - they're a good excuse to get out, within reason of course.

I'm not antisocial but if a birthday is an excuse to see a bud then I don't know, he/she is not a good bud? Would rather spend time with the people I naturally spend my time with.

Some people make a whole freaking deal about their birthday and it's ridiculous.
