I get it's a bad joke, but Icelanders are named after their fathers given names. The son of Sigurd Gudmundsson would be Gudmund Sigurdsson, not Gudmund Gudmundssonsson. His daughter would be Gudrun Sigurdsdottir. Danish surnames developed the same way (i.e. Christian son of Erik) but we stopped actually naming ourselves after our fathers a while back, and those kind of names are seen as uncool among my generation. My dad is named something like Niels Sørensen (changed for privacy) but I'm named neither Sørensen nor Nielsen. I do call my girlfriend Offred, though.
