I find it kind of sad

(nb I don't really, I'm doing a bit)

The Chapo and Red Scare takes on Israel/Palestine are...a study in contrasts.

Daniel_Rf, Saturday, 16 June 2018 09:46 (eight years ago)

Maybe it's the virtue of low expectations but I'm enjoying the XXXTentacion bonus ep w/ Tarpley Hitt, though it's always funny/jarring when Felix switches to Serious Journalist Delivery

Simon H., Tuesday, 26 June 2018 13:20 (seven years ago)

truly he contains multitudes

topless from 11am (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 13:24 (seven years ago)

xp lol Simon I was expecting something like his usual bonus interviews, fewer jokes, but this intro is straight up This American Life ahahaha

flappy bird, Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:25 (seven years ago)

lol I had the EXACT same thought listening to the intro. Not sure I can sit through it though, no idea who this guy is or why I should care.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:39 (seven years ago)

it's only worth it if you buy or are at least somewhat interested in Felix's theses about The Youth Of Today

Simon H., Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:43 (seven years ago)

I'm enjoying it, the fandom for XXX is mystifying to me & this is p informative & certainly better than reading half a dozen thinkpieces

flappy bird, Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:49 (seven years ago)

I would pay an extra $1 a month for Felix's theses on vegan hardcore

louise ck (milo z), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 18:00 (seven years ago)

same

Asad Haider has been having a lot of great interviews lately on the history of collective action and how “identity politics” has been mis-used from its formulation in the 70s. This here is another:

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 20:13 (seven years ago)

his book is very good!!!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:44 (seven years ago)

The interviews I've seen so far don't seem super new/insightful to me if you've already read How We Get Free, which this seems to derive a lot from, but I'm happy to see more of that sort of analysis kicking around

New ep is predictably bifurcated into "joy" and "despair" halves, though Matt's "Hey, hey LBJ...how ya doin', buddy?" bit was a good one

Simon H., Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:47 (seven years ago)

His interviews draw a lot on that book, but he’s able to add to that.

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Thursday, 28 June 2018 21:30 (seven years ago)

note the date

Can't wait to built a neo-Nazi fanbase that commits pogroms on my order but then reveal that I was doing irony the whole time and it's okay.

Matt’s been right a few times

Who's claiming irony now?

New double-length Mic Dicta on the Supreme Court and, uh, JBP's lawsuit is likely worth a listen.

the twin attack of virgil's wonksplaining and matt's frustrated rants is too much sometimes

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Tuesday, 3 July 2018 14:16 (seven years ago)

Lmfao at the picture for the new premium episode

flappy bird, Friday, 6 July 2018 07:24 (seven years ago)

who would have thought that the guy on this show to say "before we begin, i have a few cuhveets" would be virgil and not will

difficult listening hour, Friday, 6 July 2018 08:27 (seven years ago)

apparently that was a callback to a previous Felix mispronunciation but thankfully I don't recall that level of minutiae

Simon H., Friday, 6 July 2018 11:44 (seven years ago)

Are there any lefty podcasts that talk about good things that are happening or say "here's how we can win"? Because the despair is starting to feel too real for me.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 6 July 2018 13:20 (seven years ago)

The best source for that is probably The Dig and other pods that dig into left electoral strategy and stuff like that - by nature a lot more wonky/dry, though. Trillbillies is generally pretty good at keeping the tone light, plus added regional charm.

Simon H., Friday, 6 July 2018 13:25 (seven years ago)

The Dig is heavy. The Trillbillies are definitely one place I turn when everything is too much.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 6 July 2018 13:34 (seven years ago)

I like to check in with Street Fight now and again for this too, though it's a little too casual/digressive for my tastes

Simon H., Friday, 6 July 2018 13:40 (seven years ago)

Street Fight I only listen to the call-in shows, I love hearing people's shitty job stories.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 6 July 2018 13:47 (seven years ago)

The call ins are too long. One hour a week is my Street Fight limit.

louise ck (milo z), Friday, 6 July 2018 19:54 (seven years ago)

as much as the Chapo crowd wants to portray them as Dockers-wearing mayo fuckboys, imo the Pod Save guys are fairly progressive in the grand scheme of things. maybe they're just savvy at reading the tea leaves. i mean, obviously they're gonna ride for Barry O 'til they die but it's not often that I hear them say something that sounds like equivocating bullshit (I mean, it DOES happen, but not as much as some would like you believe). anyway, my point is that they're obviously not despairing either.

evol j, Friday, 6 July 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)

I suspect the personal animus mostly stems from Levitt (sp?) editing out most of Felix's appearance at the podfest thing

Simon H., Friday, 6 July 2018 21:07 (seven years ago)

The Struggle Session guys and other left Twitter people making fun of those guys for looking dorky I guess at last weekend’s protest come across like assholes who don’t care about anything.

lol love this pod drama

flopson, Friday, 6 July 2018 21:54 (seven years ago)

any time I dip into this thread I get the inescapable feeling that this is the modern equivalent of 70s/80s talk radio, and any disputes between "crews" are akin to Dr. Dean Edell and Dr. Laura getting into a slap fight

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 July 2018 21:58 (seven years ago)

Sam Seder vs. Jimmy Dore is my favorite podfeud

President Keyes, Friday, 6 July 2018 22:10 (seven years ago)

Bit more of an ideological component here

Virgil on today’s Majority Report btw

President Keyes, Saturday, 7 July 2018 00:55 (seven years ago)

for anyone who's been wanting them to go in on republican sickos instead of centrist losers, this week is for you. (also contains what is to date their only convincing pitch for actually buying the book)

Simon H., Monday, 9 July 2018 12:11 (seven years ago)

matt sounds gacked up in this one

we æt so many shimripl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 9 July 2018 20:10 (seven years ago)

apparently they're trying to arrange to have Boots Riley on, which would rule.

Simon H., Monday, 9 July 2018 20:12 (seven years ago)

yeah, that movie seems way up their alley

we æt so many shimripl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 9 July 2018 20:15 (seven years ago)

I gave them another shot recently because they had a couple of guests I already like (David Roth, Libby Watson) and I'm enjoying it a lot more than when I first tried it out in early 2017. you're probably right about the shift from bashing centrists to bashing the GOP. I can appreciate the former up to a point, but when it becomes your primary animating principle it's just pathetic and annoying. early 2017 was not really a time when I was super-enthused to listen to three dudes endlessly dunking on Hillary Clinton.

evol j, Monday, 9 July 2018 20:16 (seven years ago)

congrats to the Red Scare ladies on coming up with the single least appealing guest/topic combo possible (The Abortion Episode ft. Liz Bruening) for their latest premium ep

Simon H., Monday, 9 July 2018 21:08 (seven years ago)

awooooo

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 9 July 2018 21:10 (seven years ago)

appreciated the one where they were talking about alexandria o-c's victory and how ridiculous it is that right-wing media has been representing her platform more honestly than the democrats
