Simon H., Tuesday, 12 June 2018 03:46 (eight years ago)

I wonder if the dairy system in North Korea is fair, unlike say Canada.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 03:48 (eight years ago)

this whole thing was ridiculous and content fee, and as expected the press lapped it up and will be reporting on it for days

Dan S, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 04:18 (eight years ago)

Kim just wanted to see him in private to tell him he's got the pee tape.

StanM, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 04:19 (eight years ago)

lol

Dan S, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 04:21 (eight years ago)

Just now:

"A really fantastic meeting -- a lot of progress. Top of the line. We are going right now for a signing," President Trump just told reporters.

— Jeff Zeleny (@jeffzeleny) June 12, 2018

How very...content free.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 04:41 (eight years ago)

Trump gonna sign some trading cards.

Trudeau should get some nukes, open some gulags and murder some relatives. That's obviously the way to get deals done these days

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 05:10 (eight years ago)

Apparently he's 'Presidential' now. He also brushed off a late in the (hour long!) press-er question about legitimizing Kim's oppressive regime...and he talked about putting hotels on N. Korea's beaches.

Making Plans For Sturgill (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 09:32 (eight years ago)

he talked about putting hotels on N. Korea's beaches.
>
would be a scandal in itself under most other regimes.
Business as per usual with him though. THe State as a way of promoting his business projects.
Did his popularity go up at all because of this trip.
God i'm disgusted on so many levels by this whole farce and the continuous farce it's a smaller part of.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 10:40 (eight years ago)

we are going to save "a tremendous amount of money" by ending military exercises w/ SK

Trump on North Korea and Kim Jong-un: "His country does love him. His people, you see the fervor. They have a great fervor."

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 11:58 (eight years ago)

This is crazy, people normally keep the working so that they have something to look at in future. Just in case things go wrong , like.
Is this supposed to be a lasting anything or is it just a way for him to get new sites for a hotel business he shouldn't be involved in while performing a serious role?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 12:04 (eight years ago)

Donald, I know you're one of the smartest and least racist people I've ever met with one of the all-time great memories, but...mmm, I dunno, you don't seem like you'd be all that great at flying. Y'know, going to the top of one of your buildings and leaping off and soaring through the air like an eagle? I'm just not sure you have it in you, sorry. Sad, even! Oh, well. Sigh. I guess that'll just have to be the one thing you're really terrible at. Unless you'd like to prove me wrong?

Not with a bang but a MAGA (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 12:05 (eight years ago)

Trump has accomplished nothing (in the presidency as in his prior life) that wasn't completely self-serving. Nothing lasting or substantive will come of this, aside from the possibility of Americans being required to conform to particular haircuts under threat of death.

Not with a bang but a MAGA (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 12:08 (eight years ago)

its such a bad thing to stop sabre rattling up around korea hmm

I did wonder if this was all a ploy to put a Trump logo on Ryugyong tower tbh

it's a key foundation of all US politics. if you recall just a week or so after the Shithole comment #TheResistance signed off on giving the hated dictator a bigger military budget than he asked for

would not be at all surprised if Trump's approval rating (44% last I saw) creeps north of 50% in the next week or so.

we used to get our kicks reading surfing MAGAzines (sic), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 13:17 (eight years ago)

Trump's approval is at 41 right now and I don't think it'll ever break 45

frogbs, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 13:22 (eight years ago)

like I get that this is probably a good thing, even if the US got played here at the very least Trump probably talked himself out of starting a war so that's good

that said this'll all be forgotten in two days, remember how Trump got all our allies pissed and threatened to start a trade war with everyone

Seriously, because this is an historic moment of great import and not just two autocrats emptily jerking one another off all over the rest of the world's population.

I'm aware. Just lamenting the likelihood that a significant number of low-information citizens are likely to take away from this circus a belief that significant progress was made toward achieving global peace. While a summit is certainly preferable to presidential rage-tweeting, we're miles away from tangible results.

evol j, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:01 (eight years ago)

I keep thinking that I've come across dystopian sci fi stories that start with set ups like I'm hearing in the news over the last few days. Only I think you'd dispose of a character like the U.S. President as being too cartoonish to be real.
Editor would probably get on teh writer's back about it.

after 9/11 gwb had a fucking 90% approval rating. donald trump actually having a positive favorability rating for once in his miserable life isn't going to shatter my faith in humanity.

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:07 (eight years ago)

Thank goodness that 90% approval rating was shortly followed by his being chased out of the WH with torches and pitchforks and that he's spat on in the street to this day. Justice.

Not with a bang but a MAGA (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

No, I think he reinvented himself as a great portrait artist

Stevolende, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:10 (eight years ago)

If we last that long, I basically expect Trump to replace Santa Claus as the figure most beloved of children everywhere as they cower in fear from whatever vampire lord has taken over the country at that point and delights in publicly feeding on squalling infants.

Not with a bang but a MAGA (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:12 (eight years ago)

those low info people were going to vote for a GOP moron or Trump anyway!

my implication was more along the lines of "i can't fathom why anybody would have any faith in humanity left to shatter at this point", ol

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:13 (eight years ago)

Oh, okay, then yes 100%.

― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn)

the low info people can, and do, change their opinions, and probably their core beliefs, at the drop of a hat, so what they think in june is of basically zero relevance.

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 14:15 (eight years ago)

My take continues to be a kind of sad resignation, though. Too many people are just too easily led, and there are always evil & manipulative pieces of shit all-too-willing to exploit that. Mine isn't a lack of faith in humanity but rather a lack of faith in humanity's collective ability to avoid being duped.
