roasted unsalted monkey nuts
booze
homemade curries
having a good long shite with the kindle
staring at death and death looking back, and thinking yeah fuck you arsehole
committing to f/t unrestricted hate warfare against my fucking arsehole neighbours
unsalted red skin peanuts
the intricate beauty of trees dancing in the wind to birdsong in the summer, assisted by the illuminated colours of the landscape, seemingly also dancing under the sun's rays. That make me want to be Monet/Cezanne, until I start thinking about twatting the fuck out of my neighbours again.

Read that Blowflygirl story. Seems familiar so maybe that's why it made me nostalgic for an earlier era of the internet. Refreshingly just disgusting rather than dark or scary.

Biriyanis, I'm cooking the second Chicken Biriyani of the last 3 days after making a Beef one yesterday. I'm starting to reap the benefits of soaking the basmati in multiple washes of water, it gives it a perfect texture.

calzino, Sunday, 29 July 2018 16:50 (five years ago) link

what's your recipe/method/secret? I've never really got into cooking biriyanis despite loving them, I wonder if mb I tried and it wasn't good

ogmor, Sunday, 29 July 2018 18:19 (five years ago) link

nowt spesh really, I started with a very bland Maunika Gowardhan recipe and basically just made it hotter and used much more tomato puree: chicken marinated in greek yoghurt, turmeric, hot chilli powder. Simple tomato, onion, cardamom, red + green chillis, cumin seeds, ground cumin, garam masala, garlic/ginger based sauce to cook it in. Add cooked rice and garnish with fresh coriander and lemon juice. I suppose the game changer for me has been the slow prep washing of the rice, then letting it cool after 6 1/2 mins of boiling, and stirring it about whilst it cools down, to get that really good texture.

lol i read "daughters of the winter queen" by nancy goldstone which is about the offspring of elizabeth stuart. she in turn was king james vi/i's daughter - the one guy fawkes et al planned to install on the throne after disposing of james. anyway it's really good! lots of characters. one of the daughters becomes penpals with descartes. there is a lot of anxiety about "good matches" as the family fortunes become uncertain etc. you know how it is - accept the crown of bohemia, get run out of town by an armed battalion. i want to read more about rupert - he's the baby they almost got left on the floor when frederick and elizabeth stuart were fleeing prague in a hurry. he ended up fighting for charles i in the civil war and had a massive white dog named Boye that went with him everywhere, even into battle. for awhile he became a pirate of a sort.
