they often tell you not to fly after some surgeries due to air pressure changes but I think the risk itself is very low

not for kidney surgery though I don't think.

fwiw family member is about to have surgery related to liver and dr says "no international travel for 3 months, US for 6-8 weeks. I should be fine after 4-6 weeks but probably the first month I'm mostly at home doing nothing"

As for Krauthammer, "the evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with the bones" pretty well sums it up for me.
