I think you can click on a person's name and see a list of who their friends are .... that might narrow it down, if you recognise any of those names.

Dear Mr Carlin

Are you Mr Carlin? If so I want to friend you. Please provide confirmation of identity, including full bank details, passport number and comprehensive list of all worldly goods and chattels.

Sincerely etc.

I think I get enough of those types of email from Nigeria...

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 2 July 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

I've been seduced by FB for the past couple of weeks but now I am drifting back to the ILX fold.

Hard like armour, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

Can you help me with something? If I want to find old friends, and I search their name and lots of people come up and it's not immediately apparent if any of them are who I'm looking for, how do I see their full profile?

You can usually tell by looking at their friends list, I find. If you've got any people or places in common that's usually the giveaway.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)

searching friends' friends, or looking for groups/networks people from the past might be in, is the better way of finding people.

the "find people via your email contacts list" reveals only that i have NO IDEA who most of the people in my gmail address book are.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

"find people via your email contacts list" = "would you like to add everyone you've ever bought or sold something to on Amazon marketplace?"

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

Also: suddenly noticing that annoying PRs are really hot

nathalie, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

How was Berlin?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

When people poke you, are you supposed to poke them back? What's the point of it? There's no message with it or anything.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

Poking is a way of saying hello i am here and i want to fuck you...but for people without the confidence to actually say or even imply it

Filey Camp, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

You ask for money to be paypaled to you. A tenner normally unless it's without the glove, then it's twenty. (xpost)

oh shit. i poked my boss today.

Rubyred, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

What? It's just letting'em know you're here/there.

nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

that's a relief. because my boss is a married woman.

Rubyred, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

There are a bunch of people on FB from ILX that I would like to friend but think it would through them off because they wouldn't know who I was. What to do?

ENBB, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

I think a poke to a non-friend allows them to see your profile for a limited period ("yes, it is me - I sat next to you in Geography in 1983 and now I like embroidery and Wolf Eyes"); if they poke you back you can see their profile. From such jabbing beautiful "friend"ships are rekindled. Any subsequent pokes are for laffs.

There are apparently 686,000 Londoners on Facebook.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

So far I only have ILX0rs I've actually met in IRL as friends, but that's not a conscious decision on my part. I don't think I've actually added any ILX0rs yet anyway, they've added me. I was the same as you, wasn't sure if I should or not!

xpost the pokes I was talking about were from people who are already friends, so it wasn't to add me or anything, that's why I wondered what it was for.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

Did you add me yet, I cannot recall.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

Ned - Me or CP? You were one of my first FB friends.

ENBB, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

Ned trying to brag he has a gazillion friends on FB. ;-)

nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

former left-wing comrade is now in the "I WILL BE A BILLIONAIRE" group, who's a self-employed investor/stock trader.

Facebook, why u shatter memories/illusions?

milo z, Thursday, 5 July 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

is a 'self-employed investor/stock trader' - feel like scare quotes are a necessity there.

milo z, Thursday, 5 July 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

i got poked, poked them back, never heard back from them again. which is how i like it. usually the etiquette seems to be that you get poked, then add the person.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 5 July 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a zombie - thanks Trish!

Hard like armour, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

She tried to get me too but I ducked. Take that zombie Trish!

kv_nol, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:11 (eighteen years ago)

Every second dude on there has the "hilarious" Chuck Norris application. Makes me slightly angry.

Also, add mee. If you like. M4rk W4lt3r.

Drooone, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

^In the ilm group.

Drooone, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

Haven't joined ILM group as would feel like an imposter because I only pop on there every now and again.

Hard like armour, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, i guess it should have been an ilxor group. ah well.

Drooone, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

There's an ILX group too!

ENBB, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

sweet nectar.

Drooone, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

Just get onboard http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2382779449

Hard like armour, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:33 (eighteen years ago)

It's private or whatever. Was the ilm one private?

Drooone, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know, I can't remember. I think you just submit a request to join this one and then Nathalie approves it.
