not blaming the dems, just preparing for the worst. and I fall into the former camp - not fatalistic, but I remember how crushed & shocked I was when Bush was re-elected when I never even considered the possibility. I’d say Trump is less likely than Bush to be re-elected, but who knows. It’s too early to say anyway

Blaming the dems for running a sad sack with a shitty message in 2020 when we haven't even made it through the midterms is also pathetic self-flagellating crap.I want them to do better! But it doesn’t look like they learned anything from 2016. I hope they do soon
― flappy bird, Saturday, 2 June 2018 20:34 (six years ago) link
I don't want to have this discussion again, but we had ample evidence that Bush II would win a close re-election. Trump surprised me.

is it possible that we've all been misunderstanding trump this entire time?
when he says "NO OBSTRUCTION" we've all been taking it for granted that he's implying "...on my part"
but really what he means is "...because it doesn't exist, conceptually, for a president"
― obviously DLC (Karl Malone)
right, yes, yes, "when the president does it it's not illegal", we've been through this, can we skip directly to the part where you resign in disgrace please

The guys online I get all my news filtered though said that Dems are running midterm campaigns based exclusively on (get this) “Russia hysteria and Hamilton references” now clearly they have not learned the lessons that I have learned from 2016.

otm. Biden will appoint SCOTUS justices and federal judges that believe in limiting class action law suits and reproductive rights. He'll sign dangerous executive orders that will allow administrators to bypass Obama federal regulations, and appoint Cabinet secretaries like Scott Pruitt. We gotta stop this dreadful thing from happening.

personally i don't see how the democrats will ever unseat trump if they stick to their sinister conspiracy to run a manchin/lieberman ticket in 2020
― Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Sunday, 3 June 2018 11:40 (six years ago) link
Would thi8nk that anything that might go towards making possible Democratic voters stay home was a positive for teh Republicans and therefore something to be avoided. Hoping that the pattern from elections throughout the year so far might carry over to the mid terms but think they do need more fo a reason to vote for Democrats rather than vote against Republicans because just abstaining is a factor that seems to have contributed heavily to 2016.
― Stevolende, Sunday, 3 June 2018 11:49 (six years ago) link
Clinton/Lieberman is what I've heard. The slogan will be 'Told you so you fucking idiots, now what are you going to do?' although Clinton worries it's too long.

i've seen the democrats' 2020 draft platform, and it's a winner. it's got a twelve pages explaining thoroughly why george soros was not the architect of the holocaust. also a picture of obama's birth certificate. it's a slam dunk! they can't lose!
― Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Sunday, 3 June 2018 12:57 (six years ago) link
Here's an idea: what if the Democrats sneakily made peace with the North Koreans first! Then when Trump gets there they'd be all, sorry, we already made a peace treaty, you're too late. Then Trump would just sort of scratch his head and take credit, and the Dems will suddenly leap out of the Oval Office closet and yell, "it was us, we did it! We made the peace!" Trump will have a heart attack and die, everyone will love the Dems, and then they get the White House and mint a bunch of "in your face" challenge coins and give one to everyone (they can arrange them to be good for a free item off of McDonald's dollar menu, which will now include the McRib and the Shamrock Shake year-round) and people will love them forever and then they can officially and formally outlaw racism forever and fix the roads.
And then they'll lose the election the next time for outlawing racism and fixing the roads, because fuck you, I won't do what you tell me to, I want someone who tells it like it is, not someone who fixes things and outlaws racism.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 June 2018 13:04 (six years ago) link
also, i'm told by reliable sources, by which i mean the same people who keep telling me about the "pee tape", that clinton has already drafted her entire cabinet and will announce it at the same time she announces her candidacy. she believes this will show her strong work ethic, initiative, and her commitment to transparency. henry kissinger is going to make a great secretary of state!
