No amount of cat pictures is making it worthwhile atm.

I've been ruthless with it and unfollowed nearly 100 people/accounts from people who are repeating things and simply adding noise tbh.

By 'liking', ppl I follow - and some that don't follow me back - usually are adding very good funny things to my timeline, but only to an extent so I don't get any particular thing in a high volume so I was only somewhat aware of the Renaissance painting business. It wasn't in my face.

Takes a while but it's perfect at the moment to just get a flavour of things. The selfies from ppl I don't know is the only thing I feel like I have to tolerate.

My tl is ok because I unfollow/mute as necessary and really don’t interact with many people but the wider site is fucking awful - just endless shit and negativity. I have no idea why I spend so much time on there when it does nothing for me.

I get almost none of the junk ShariVari mentioned, but it might be due to my persistent disinterest in directly following political ppl

Yes, three quarters of the people I follow are journalists so I only have myself to blame really.

I dont follow any of the political lads on twitter, or the ones where they find a mean-spirited cunts tweet and say imagine being this cunt. Nothing wrong with that for those that want it but it doesnt brighten my day

On the political side of things , Big Nev Southall is good though, for using it in a positive way

Can you really not tailor your notifications to notify you only of replies and retweets of your own tweets (plus dm's, follows/unfollows etc)? Is it true that you are forced to deal with notifications about various convos people you follow might be engaging in? That is outrageous if so. How do you guys handle this.

I don't have notifications turned on at all.

xp huh... Google tells me it was part of a rollout of new features from early last year. On my phone it'll just say that I have a new notification and I have to click just to find out if the tweet(s) is even directed to me, it sucks. I do see how it drives more traffic to the site though.

the ones i can't get rid of are on my phone. the "user_X tweeted for the first time in a while, check it out!" kind. i get one every single morning. clearing it out is part of my wake up routine

I get so indignant when shit like this is forced on me. Then I remember it's a private company and they can do whatever they want, but if tens of millions of people are forced to do this kind of housecleaning on a daily basis, the ultimate toll on people's time and productivity is staggering
