it's not pretty.

TY, that will be my legacy to ILX under my old DM.

Eliza D., Thursday, 24 May 2018 14:53 (eight years ago)

Looking forward to the animated 24-minute version of this strip, ala the Super Mario one.

pplains, Thursday, 24 May 2018 17:39 (eight years ago)

it is a measure of his quality that this is the first time it has been deemed necessary.

iirc (not checking) about 40% of this thread is ppl being dense about the strip

hmm...

Nhex, Monday, 2 July 2018 19:18 (seven years ago)

is that a real PBF thing? looks like a comic you would see on reddit.

circa1916, Monday, 2 July 2018 19:19 (seven years ago)

it looks like an xkcd strip. all that's missing is a hilarious alt text box saying something like, "who needs hugs and encouraging words when you can rest in the assurance that your tired, despondent body will always accelerate at 9.81 m/s² before it strikes the boardroom floor?"

the yolk sustains us, we eat whites for days (unregistered), Tuesday, 3 July 2018 00:11 (seven years ago)

the omission makes it

mh, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 01:20 (seven years ago)

Scanned as authentic PBF to me this morning but I agree w/ circa it does seem fishy, I mean is that his store?

flappy bird, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 03:20 (seven years ago)

Because, I will gladly & immediately buy as much shit from him as I can afford because his genius has been genuinely life-affirming and inspiring over so many years for me.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 03:22 (seven years ago)

pretty sure that was never an actual PBF strip.

visiting, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 03:38 (seven years ago)

it's on his main website, so it's an official strip, but it's a new one. not sure if the store is his. yeah that strip is very xkcd, but his shtick is doing different styles, so I'll allow him one comic like this

Vinnie, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 04:45 (seven years ago)

ak ok yeah i see it is the latest one. i figured it was something much older because of the minimal style.

visiting, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 04:57 (seven years ago)

the style is different than usual but it reads like a PBF joke to me

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Tuesday, 3 July 2018 05:46 (seven years ago)

it's legit; i posted it bc he tweeted about it

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 13:19 (seven years ago)

It's pretty weak. But hey, it's kinda silly enough where it'll probably start showing up in dentist offices and cubicles all over the nation

Nhex, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 13:33 (seven years ago)

the style is different than usual but it reads like a PBF joke to me

feels like one his genre exercises, the xkcd comparison is otm

flappy bird, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 16:29 (seven years ago)

it feels like an xkcd script without randall munroe's habit of throat-clearing or explaining the joke after the punchline

sprout god (lag∞n), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 13:23 (seven years ago)

not his most clever, I guess

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 15:11 (seven years ago)

working to get that famous playboy humor just right lol

sprout god (lag∞n), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 15:51 (seven years ago)

also, the son is apparently already familiar with what it looks like when trees have human sex, so it's not so much like the twist is dad saying "actually they're fucking!" as it is the dad correcting him on the kind of fucking they're doing

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:31 (seven years ago)

the trees could just be replaced with two real people doing it in the woods, and it would be the same joke

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:32 (seven years ago)

holy shit, a talking tree!

mh, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:33 (seven years ago)

I don't see any breasts on the tree. Is that the joke?

pplains, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:50 (seven years ago)

I think I could probably do without his sex-themed cartoons.

Alba, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:52 (seven years ago)

yea I didn't really parse what the joke was exactly but it did make me laugh so it's not a failure

frogbs, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:55 (seven years ago)

he shd draw a sexy tree with tits

sprout god (lag∞n), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:57 (seven years ago)

does his work regularly appear in playboy? if so, i'd imagine he's at least happy to get a decent paycheck.

it's too bad, in a world that wasn't dumb his first 100 panels or so could just be syndicated in black in white in the cartoon section of hundreds of newspapers and they'd be by far the funniest thing in there every single day. but you're not allowed to have a syndicated cartoon unless you're completely bland and humorless or struck some sort of deal with satan back in the early 1980s.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:57 (seven years ago)

i mean the joke is pretty obvious and typical PBF, misunderstanding & inability to communicate

flappy bird, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 17:19 (seven years ago)

Should've been 'come on my buds', but otherwise I laughed.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 17:22 (seven years ago)

the tree saying "unnngggh" is the funniest part

21st savagery fox (m bison), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 18:05 (seven years ago)

yes

flappy bird, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)

1. a tree wouldn't do that
2. a tree wouldn't say that
3. holy shit a talking tree

mh, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 18:19 (seven years ago)

kelp, clam and carrion (sic), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 20:58 (seven years ago)

yea but even then she was just taking over a century-old comic strip

PBF is awesome but obviously a lot of that is due to the fact that the author doesn't have to crank 'em out every day, every week, or every month

frogbs, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 21:01 (seven years ago)

frogbs, Monday, 5 November 2018 15:09 (seven years ago)

Quite the epic tale

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 5 November 2018 15:34 (seven years ago)

is that the first one that is co-written?

Karl Malone, Monday, 5 November 2018 20:39 (seven years ago)

My favorite in a long long time
