hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:21 (eight years ago)

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:23 (eight years ago)

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:23 (eight years ago)

it's just more lame than it is immoral imo

Mordy, Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:24 (eight years ago)

sorry for using a slur. it's just like find a new way to express frustration than the same trite online leftist edgy opinions4you crap.

Mordy, Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:24 (eight years ago)

it is almost certainly lame but partly of the order of the kind of lame joke that increases its pleasure thru annoying overuse

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)

hey nv let's do a podcast where we count down the 50 politicians we'd reluctantly behead

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)

also our leftist edgy opinions4you are more self-knowing and world-weary than yr standard excitable Dem rambles.

not by v much, i'll grant you.

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:26 (eight years ago)

bg i am ideologically opposed to podcasts but if we throw in a transcript for people who can read then i'm in

guillotine (aka the sliceyboi) jokes are inevitable when folks are increasingly frustrated by the status quo and alienated from their local political processes. I'm actually kind of...impressed?...at how widespread those references are now, was def not the case even a year ago

Simon H., Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:34 (eight years ago)

lol i'd forgotten about the sliceyboi meme, you know shit is getting real when people are giving cutesy nicknames to their preferred method of executing their oppressors

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:39 (eight years ago)

Historically speaking, political polarization sliding toward violence is normal.

I type this in a comfy chair situated in a part of the country whose soil has absorbed blood from European settlement, native genocide, a violent revolution, a pretty frickin' divisive civil war, and massive resistance to civil rights.

To me, just that we're so reluctant to advocate violence speaks of a certain kind of (halting, piecemeal, fragile) progress for humanity.

moresoupial (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:40 (eight years ago)

Isn't there a thread where Mordy argues in favour of the death penalty?

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:42 (eight years ago)

pro violence anti violent metaphors

Mordy, Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:43 (eight years ago)

Ah, you're just disappointed we haven't lopped off any aristo heads yet.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:44 (eight years ago)

guillotine slices down and not up iirc this must be a sore point for many itt

gneb farts (darraghmac), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:48 (eight years ago)

look if you can make a reverse bungee ride you could make a reverse guillotine

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:49 (eight years ago)

so you're advocating for like a guillotine cannon? i'm into it xp

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:50 (eight years ago)

anyway i don't see guillotining as a thing in the grand tradition of the Terror, i just think that there will always be human beings who are intractably opposed to freedom and democracy and that come the reconfiguration of our socioeconomic system some hardened oppressors may leave us no choice other than to put them out of our misery. circumstances and method to be decided on the day.

hepatitis groan (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 May 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)

But Oliver was not the only effigy hanged that day. Alongside the stamp officer, the Bostonians suspended a large Jack Boot with the head of a demon poking from the top. The boot and demon were a reference to John Stuart, Earl of Bute, an unpopular former Prime Minister who was widely attacked as the mastermind of the Stamp Act.

i view it more as a kind of grand guignol social experiment: will the super-rich stop pointlessly hoarding their wealth if they see that a hundred or so of their peers are pulled from their ivory towers and decapitated by baying mobs? we'll never know unless we try, and we already have a control group in the form of the last 70 years or so of western culture!

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 10 May 2018 14:01 (eight years ago)

It’s the revolution LARPing that bugs me

Mordy, Thursday, 10 May 2018 14:19 (eight years ago)

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 10 May 2018 14:20 (eight years ago)

Hunt3r, Thursday, 10 May 2018 15:06 (eight years ago)

you’re like the left wing version of those watering the tree of liberty guys

Mordy, Thursday, 10 May 2018 15:19 (eight years ago)

that poem at the end of the scotophobic tree waterer thing is really something:

The Scottish people is rejected,
The world besides will be accepted.
Jews, Infidels and Hottentots
We welcome here – but not the Scots.

scott seward, Thursday, 10 May 2018 15:20 (eight years ago)

who even remembers there was scot hate in this country? seems like such a quaint hate at this point.

scott seward, Thursday, 10 May 2018 15:22 (eight years ago)

The Irish hadn't arrived yet, that explains it.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 May 2018 15:23 (eight years ago)

During the evening celebrations, the Bostonians toasted to ‘A Repeal of the Stamp Act, and a perpetual Itching without the Benefit of Scratching to its Friends’. This was a reference to the notorious ‘Scottish Itch’, the common stereotype being that dirty, lice-ridden Scots were constantly scratching themselves.

*tries not to scratch*
