Yeah me too I guess. I've found the thread to be a useful digest of the whole shit show. I don't have the constitution right now to subject myself to the dozens of daily disasters via primary sources. It's been comforting at times, too, so thank you funny guys.

the trump/politics threads could be a LOT worse. i mean, you guys have seen this place, right? there is remarkably little fighting/rooster crowing on them. plus, Nedlinks.

but it is a total info dump. which i imagine might make some people's eyes go blurry.

I do sometimes get caught up in it as a way to pass the time, but yeah - I only really care about that stuff to the extent that it harms and hinders the wicked. Harming the wicked is not the same as helping the downtrodden but it may be a necessary first step.

my feeling is this: I doubt the russia investigation is going to take down Trump. If it does, great, but there's nothing I can do to help it along, and getting caught up in every twist and turn just leads to agita (although occasionally also comic relief). Meanwhile, there's lots of actual political/policy stuff going on that is important and dangerous, and at least by talking about and caring about that I spread the word about something that might actually impact midterm elections.

Not to get too deep into a topic that people just don't care about ITT, but there's a fair argument to be made that the Russia investigation and various related clusterfucks will have a far greater impact on midterm elections than any policy details.

the politics thread is fucking awful. i understand why people do it, it's a coping strategy, but i can't cope with that sort of sustained car crash staring. i have to go to a lot of trouble to actively avoid anything that resembles "news". i turned off data on my phone yesterday because google keeps trying to keep me "informed".

You impute psychological terms ("coping strategy") to what's merely entertainment – for me anyway. It sits in the background on my work computer.

it's like being a sports fan.

i'm trying to be compassionate. sorry to be judgmental, but it strikes me as kind of monstrous to treat what's going on right now as "entertainment".
