i saw it coming, what with last season being so terrible, but yeah, this season has been so great! sad :(

sad about 'the o.c.', i blame the bilson/brody breakup

also confused as to how i can disagree with virtually 90 percent of milo's aesthetic opinion's, but he's right that this year has been kgreat in newport

pour one out

Ridiculous Area 51 rave scene was worth it for the comic book geek recognizing Seth.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't see how they're going to wrap stuff up satisfactorily. I am surprised the ratings have dropped so much but it must still have more viewers than, say, the war at home, right? (I guess it costs much more to make though).

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link

and for god's sake i just found out that charmed lasted 7 seasons!! maybe more? i don't know but i saw there was a charmed season 7 dvd set

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

but there's something to be said for syndication, i guess

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

rrrobyn, I don't want to make things worse, but there were actually 8 seasons of charmed. There really is no justice in the world.

Really annoyed they cancelled the O.C. since this season has been amazing.

(there are unsubstantiated rumors about a move to the CW)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 4 January 2007 20:29 (seventeen years ago) link

8 seasons! wow, fanbase power

wait, is teh CW a channel or a place?

Never noticed how tiny Peter Gallagher is.

Josh Schwartz now has a pilot at NBC. Not sure what that means for any future seasons. They seem keen on just ending it on a creative high.

now you know: EARTHQUAKE!

sunny successor agrees: gay dad always trumps slutty mom (katharine), Friday, 2 February 2007 13:12 (seventeen years ago) link

i was hoping they would just get increasingly more ludicrous week by week but they haven't, really. they are rushing through the storylines awfully quickly though (like, when did julie and frank even have a relationship? they were revealed to have been seeing each other, then he was gone next episode, now they're practically married). but earthquake = good

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 2 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know, that whole "Look! A psychic!" bit was pretty ludicrous. And last week when Taylor spied on Ryan in a giant groundhog costume. And the week before that when Seth went on that spirit journey and talked to his inner otter.

I like that, for Julie, turning down a genial racist billionaire in favor of a former child abuser represents character growth. I get that they didn't have a lot of time to set up Frank and Julie, but still, WTF?

reddening (reddening), Saturday, 3 February 2007 00:52 (seventeen years ago) link

they need MORE otter costumes and crazy shit like that

i still can't really believe this show got cancelled but it must be expensive

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 3 February 2007 00:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i love the fact that the psychic was noted as working from a kiosk and apparently not expecting a fee.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Saturday, 3 February 2007 02:08 (seventeen years ago) link

bullit's a racist??

sunny successor agrees: gay dad always trumps slutty mom (katharine), Saturday, 3 February 2007 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

omg so in love with flashback sandy cohen!!

otm re: more crazy shit - and more comedy music/score - i love that.
am fine with the frank&julie love - if this show does get renewed with another network, we will see tumultuous action btwn them for sure

i really want to eat a corndog right now :/

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Saturday, 3 February 2007 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, maybe Bullit's not a racist, but he's definitely got that charming casual bigotry going on. Remember when he invited himself to dinner with Sandy and Kirsten and Julie and regaled them with his opinions on the Great Jewish Media Conspiracy? "Hold on, He-bro!"

Anyway, I still like him for being so great with Kaitlin. I like Kaitlin way more than I thought I would this season.

OTM

I figured I would hate her. I bout gave up on it all last season when Kaitlin said that shit about "ruling Harbour". She's been good, though.

Bullitt is adorabley clueless. "He-Bro" was probably my favourite moment of the season. All very sweet, though. Which is nice.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Sunday, 4 February 2007 05:25 (seventeen years ago) link

oh blah wahtever it is the OC - the sweetness is both love and comedy and tv soap-drama jugular - sure i fall for it but bc it's tv

it was good, but super rushed like the whole season has been. but still, nice way to go out. it was almost affecting! also, flapjacks!

i miss the OC

sunny successor, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I started watching the show a couple months ago and am now almost done with season 3. (I have been reading this thread piecemeal along the way.) I think the show reached a high point early in season 2: it was funny and self-aware and I appreciated how the two power couples (Ryan/Marissa and Seth/Summer) spent most of that season apart from each other, since it made for more interesting tension than the stupid conflicts they had when they got back together. The downfall probably began with Kirsten's alcoholism: when season 3 begins, with her away in rehab, things just feel sort of off. Can't wait for Marissa to die!

jaymc, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

i also miss the OC

i miss the OC, is there a club i can join?

I miss Dawson's Creek.

milo z, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I never really watched the OC but it seems to me the show was considered good when it was a spoof of crappy teen dramas and went downhill when it actually became a lousy teen drama. Is that right?

Cunga, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Look, they shouldn't have killed Marissa. Thats it.

Dawsons Creek is on at 8am every weekday morning

sunny successor, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I've seen all those, I need new ones.

(OC on every afternoon on the Soap Channel, BTW)

milo z, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think it was ever a spoof per se, just very self-aware (cf. references to The Valley). One problem is the way the show began to make its sensational elements boringly tragic rather than breezily fun.

jaymc, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

oh they always had tragic stuff - marissa oding in tj etc

sunny successor, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

(OC on every afternoon on the Soap Channel, BTW)

yeah! i got excited when i saw the first ep on soap but when i went to make a series recording i thought 'duh - dvds.'

sunny successor, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I think maybe "boringly" is the key word in my post there. Marissa ODing in TJ was kind of hilarious.
