When William Macy was in a play in London a few years a go I saw him twice on consecutive weekends around covent garden and in a wagamama. He was with family so I probably saw Felicity Huffman too, but she wasn't famous in those days.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 6 October 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Ben Folds at Starbucks. He is smaller than expected.

molly d (mollyd), Friday, 6 October 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

barima, did you see Bey-Z???? If so I am jealous.

I lucked into a ticket at the last minute from one of my best pals, so I was very fortunate. It was off the chain. Gwyneth Aguilera's guest spot was mildly diverting.

Badrock Example (Barima), Saturday, 7 October 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

crossing 57th St & Broadway in Manhattan last Monday, I spotted a pale green Jaguar from like the early 50s stopped at the light. cool. scoping out the car, a convertible w/top down I recognized the driver as "journalist" GERALDO RIVERA. he was dressed all tweedy, rocking the Ralph Lauren look, he might've had on an ascot or maybe that's just my imagination. plus 1 young dude riding shotgun.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Saturday, 7 October 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

what's funny is that happened around 5 PM and walking toward midtown earlier that morning I caught a glimpse of the same car going past.

Geraldo was out cruising instead of atoning for his sins I guess.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Saturday, 7 October 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

boris johnson! whistling! on his bike! on the way to poptimism (me, not him) the other night!

emsk ( emsk), Saturday, 7 October 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Frank Dobson in M&S a few weeks back. How unexciting is that? Can you top that?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 8 October 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

umm... i saw nicola from big brother 1 walking down oxford street with her entourage the week after she was evicted?

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 8 October 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

oops. it wasn't oxford street; it was tottenham court road.

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 8 October 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

sometimes my entire life be like DAMNNN! (tehresa), Monday, 9 October 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

WHY DO *I* NEVER GET TO SEE BORIS JOHNSON?!?!?

Everybody has, but me. Bah. Why did you not knock him off his bike and put him in a sack and bring him to Poptimism for me, Emsk? I am very disappointed in you, being totally remiss in your managerial duties.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Monday, 9 October 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

i was deep in Important Emotional Conversation with sande and just sort of stared and turned cos i was still thinking about what we were talking about, half-thinking "is that boris johnson? is it?" then he clocked us and raised his eyebrows at us and "it is! well bloody hell, where's kate when you need her". also i could not run in those boots.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 9 October 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

Damn, just as well. I would have knocked him off his bike and asked him for his lovechild autograph.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

If he's got one, he's probably keen to get rid of it! No, wait, that makes no sense. More coffee required.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew in "not quite understanding the facts of life" shockah.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

I am a simple soul, these things are beneath me (as I understand it).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Lily Allen in Westbourne Grove last Thursday night at around 10:30 pm, standing on the sidewalk with a very tall, very thin, besuited man; she was shivering and had headphones on and was giggling as she was shivering.

Ian Botham on Argyle Street, Glasgow.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 9 October 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

I saw handsome Thierry Henry in the sports dept of Selfridges the other day - he is not as tall as I would have thought. Dunno what he was doing there either as I assume he gets all stuff like that for free.

Mark Co (Markco), Monday, 9 October 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Peter Oborne, Highbury Corner this morning.

(I thought my Rod Liddle upthread was bad enough but this surely takes the biscuit!)

Diddumsismus (Dada), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

caroline rhea. her face looked a lot chubbier in person than on tv. weird.

sometimes my entire life be like DAMNNN! (tehresa), Monday, 23 October 2006 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

Calum Best on a train on Friday, me going up to Sheffield - him to.... Chesterfield?!?!?

He seemed the shy type, weirdly.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 October 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

Just saw Boris on his bike again, round the corner from Farringdon station. On his phone while cycling along, someone should tell him that the highway code applies to cyclists as well as motorists

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

GODDAMNIT, Boris keeps riding his bike round and round my work hood. But I never see him. ever.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Michelle Wie at California Pizza Kitchen last night. Girl is fucking TALL. Was wearing golf clothing, so it was easy to notice her. That, and she's on the news every night in Honolulu.

researching ur life (grady), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

apparently jeffrey "neck tattoo dude" from project runway was at the mojave 3 show at bowery ballroom saturday night.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Dylan Moran on Denmark Street. Dude is so iconic - trudging around in the rain lookin' mildly torqued is so his steelo.

Badrock Example (Barima), Monday, 23 October 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

Neil Hannon at the NPL last night in Glasgow. He was standing outside having a fag, and I was all "ooh, that guy looks really like Neil Hannon" until someone pointed out to me that it was Neil Hannon. He was sitting at the same table as Stuart Murdoch and a couple of ILXors.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 October 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Julia Stiles out on Friday night, not dancing to my friend's enjoyable electro set.

Badrock Example (Barima), Monday, 30 October 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ex-NME journo turned football pundit and media mogul Stuart Cosgrove at Kokuryo, Argyle Street on Saturday night.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Were you in Glasgow? (or is your eyesight just really good)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes! And my eyesight is terrible.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Stuart Cosgrove somewhere quite recently, but I can't remember where. That's not much use, is it?

Glasgow must be teeming with celeb-types, and I never see any of them. I did see Rab Douglas out doing his shopping once.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

I was tempted to go up to him and ask him about Mark S. But thought he'd probably think I was a bit of a sad case, which would sadly be true.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

You should have asked him if himself and Tam really do nick their banter from the Scottish Football Predictions thread on here.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I think I saw Don Letts in Fopp a couple of weeks ago.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 6 November 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

An uncomfortable-looking Natalie Portman being shoved through a Saturday night/Sunday morning clubbing crowd at 2am over the weekend.

Badrock Example (Barima), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

Double sighting at the Grove over the weekend...
- Jennifer Tilly (who is roughly 230% more attractive in real life than she is on camera)
- Evan Handler (Harry from Sex And The City)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Philip Glass buying garlic bread at pizza place on second avenue around 9:30 pm last night!!!!

roc u like a § (ex machina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

I see Don Letts quite a lot. He lives in my part of NW London -see him, his wife and kid strolling through a small local park on Sunday afternoons. He wears a lot of Stussy and has one of those big woolly hats for his dreads.

Treblekicker (treblekicker), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Julia Stiles out on Friday night, not dancing to my friend's enjoyable electro set.

she was saving her first dance

PS wtf parties are you going to?

Harry Hamlin was on my flight do DC two weeks ago. Upon reporting this to my friends, saying "You know...Harry Hamlin...the guy from LA Law that wasn't Corbin Bernsen," I was scolded with "No. He was Perseus. He killed Medusa and the Kraken, and then rode away on Pegasus."

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

I just saw Lily Cole on Charlotte Street. And you know, she isn't too thin, she just has a teenager body. She looks pretty healthy.

He was standing outside having a fag, and I was all "ooh, that guy looks really like Neil Hannon" until someone pointed out to me that it was Neil Hannon.

I did this to Simon Amstell at a party. Except I was talking to him without the faintest idea who he was and then managed to slur 'That's it! You look just like that Simon Amstell off Popworld!' Lauren was with me and equally drunk and popped up and shouted 'You're the Eight Out Of Ten Cats dude!' at him. He moved away.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Simon Amstell waiting for a bus on New Oxford Street - he was probably going to the same cool party that Anna and Lauren were at, and thus by this post you can tell what sort of life I lead compared to Anna's glam life - HEIGH HO!! Anyway I tried to take a sneaky photo but mostly just got his t-shirt and a mass of hair. Pfft.

And who is Lily Cole anyway - I am wary of googling female slebs anymore, have I mentioned I hate the internet recently?

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Lily Cole is a young model type who kept getting mentioned in the great 'Are Models Too Thin?' debate. (Yes, what is there to debate, yes)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Neil Hannon at the NPL last night in Glasgow. He was standing outside having a fag, and I was all "ooh, that guy looks really like Neil Hannon" until someone pointed out to me that it was Neil Hannon.

I know I've repeated this on ILx before (perhaps upthread) but it's still funny. Houston movie theater, see tall, bald man all in black, companion says, jokingly, 'look it's Billy Corgan, haha.' Of course, man turns around and is Billy Corgan, doh.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I once stood outside the Barrowlands in Glasgow after a Smashing Pumpkins gig as one of those dodgy blokes who sell cheap and nasty knock-off Tshirt tried to flog James Iha a bootleg Pumpkins Tshirt to the amusement of the gathered crowd, refusing to give up even when Iha pointed himself out on the picture on the Tshirt. I was pleasantly surprised Iha gave him the time of day, let alone not punch the fuck out of him for trying to undercut his merchandising profits by flogging Tshirts for ten quid less then you could buy them in the gig.
