Weevil got fat in the big house.

I can't get over how buff Logan is now! He's not even that cute anymore, I miss skinny Logan.

I kind of hated the Logan/Veronica business in this episode, right up until the final scenes in the library, and then I gave in to the sentimental romance and got all teary-eyed.

Love that Weevil is back, and yeah I think they could have let him be mini-detective for at least a couple of episodes...

Hanna (Hanna), Thursday, 19 October 2006 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

all the dudes on this show got weirdly puffy in the offseason. I was really sad they nipped the weevil/keith as partners storyline so immediately in the bud. it was my favorite thing to happen so far this season.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm already a little sick of the "those crazy feminists!" portrayal of the women's group on campus. They all talked like hippies from some production of Hair.

I know, right? this show has weird gender politics. I used to chalk it up to the noir thing, but it hasn't even been that noir this season.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't realize it at the time, but this is suck a common tv trope. Lots of male writers scarred by freshman orientation experiences?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Doesn't seem that odd to me given that the feminists are upset by a wave of rapes on campus, many of which are happening to their friends. You should be more upset about the horrible bald caps that the makeup dept uses.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Friday, 20 October 2006 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think the existence of feminists on campus is odd, obviously, just the way the show played them as slightly ridiculous.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 20 October 2006 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Based on how just nearly every presence on the show is characterized (good/bad Logman, sorority = bad no wait they're cool people actually, yeah journalists rawk wait they're cliquey too omg), I wouldn't be surprised if one of the feminists gets fleshed out to break out of the Shrill & Humorless mode.

Nice shoes, you change your major to womens' studies?

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:02 (seventeen years ago) link

oh my god, is there nowhere I can be safe from that fucker Logan from the Gilmore Girls?

what the fuck kind of feminists don't want to know who's actually responsible for a rape. absurd strawman feminists, that's who.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not really enjoying Tortured Logan episodes. And having this as a Veronica/Logan two-hander ain't gonna work.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Not enough Wallace.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 26 October 2006 00:41 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, it's just mean to have him show up for .2 seconds.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 26 October 2006 01:16 (seventeen years ago) link

More Wallace, more Weevil, Logan should go on a European trip to find himself.

J (Jay), Thursday, 26 October 2006 12:49 (seventeen years ago) link

So what did you think? I loved that we got a lot of Weevil, and I hated Veronica for pinning him as the robber. Mystery of the week was good as well, the most complex one so far this season I think. And hahaha Logan & Veronica as White Stripes!

Hanna (Hanna), Thursday, 2 November 2006 00:27 (seventeen years ago) link

agree. back to back good episodes have me encouraged that it hasn't been ruined/buried by too many college cliches and Ed Beagley.

Jimmy_tango (Jimmy_tango), Thursday, 2 November 2006 01:31 (seventeen years ago) link

This was the most enjoyable episode they've had so far. Though I can't believe Wallace is that stupid, and Veronica's not exactly at her brightest either. But Lamb and Cliff were hilarious. "Hey, good-lookin', we'll be back to pick you up later."

clotpoll (Clotpoll), Thursday, 2 November 2006 04:38 (seventeen years ago) link

best episode of the season so far. and yeah, Veronica was totally hateful, accusing Weevil.

Cliff!!!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 2 November 2006 07:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Nother good episode! Except I think I missed something: Claire wasn't raped after all? Why did she say she was?

Piz is still the suck, however.

c('°c) (Leee), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 20:54 (seventeen years ago) link

So the feminists could prove how evil frat boys are!

Since they talked about there being no physical evidence in this ep I'm afraid it's going to turn out that the feminists were the culprits in all of the rapes in some crazyass attempt to get rid of the greek system.

Beth S. (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm sure, whether they actually were raped or not, the outcome will be MORE SHOCKING THAN ANYONE EVER IMAGINED!!!

lemin (lemin), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:13 (seventeen years ago) link

This show is dead to me.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:14 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, for serious. what the fuck?

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I wish I could go back in time and cancel it after its one perfect season.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 9 November 2006 00:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm probably going to keep watching it, because I'm a sucker, but I'm very unimpressed with the girl-makes-up-a-rape storyline.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 9 November 2006 01:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Has there been a single episode yet this season where all the people in the titles actually appeared?

It's getting different to remember the huge influx of minor characters, and the relationships they all forged with Veronica 5 episodes ago before never being mentioned again until now. The Jewish kid and the lad who bullied him in the second episode got another mention too, so they'll be back to carry on that storyline at least 5 episodes after it was started. They should stick to a few short term story arcs that last 4 or 5 episodes instead of trying to fit so many in at the same time and jumping between them.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 9 November 2006 02:49 (seventeen years ago) link

BAN VERONICA MARS

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Thursday, 9 November 2006 03:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I think they've decided to have three major mysteries in the season, which is a lot more short-term than before. I imagine that Mac is really important in at least one of them, so they're keeping her out of the episodes where she wouldn't contribute much. I kind of like the way they have things laid out, I just wish the execution wasn't so worrying. I don't hate the new season, at least not yet, but it is making me wonder what the hell the writers are up to, and not in a good way.

clotpoll (Clotpoll), Thursday, 9 November 2006 04:29 (seventeen years ago) link

It was kind of rocky there at the beginning but I think this season is beginning to gain some momentum. Definitely not as good as the first season but hey, there is always a chance that the Piz will be violently murdered.

Oct 18: i was also hoping for a lot more "Weevil & Mars Invetigates"

Typo or The Office reference?

wry commentary, MYSTERY!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 10 November 2006 22:01 (seventeen years ago) link

some of the jokes have been really bad this season and there are quite a lot of times where keith will just smile and put his head down... that's my biggest gripe.

second biggest is chubby, acned weevil.

CW extends Mars, One Tree Hill
College detective and teen drama get three more episodes each.

The CW network has extended the lives of two of its shows, college detective Veronica Mars and teen drama One Tree Hill. Both shows have been given orders for three more episodes apiece.

Mars has held steady since its third-season premier in October, matching its series-best ratings and retaining much of its Gilmore Girls lead-in. At the TCA in July, show-runner Rob Thomas said he was "acting like man who had been given a full season order."

Hill has seen ratings growth this season, retaining almost 90 percent of its America's Next Top Model lead-in teen audience. The show beat Fox's The O.C. last week in adults 18 to 49, with a 1.6 rating/4 share and has improved 14 percent in the demo compared to last year.

Both Mars and Hill had been on the bubble when The WB and UPN merged into The CW in the spring. Fans breathed easy when they both made the cut to the new network, but the CW hasn't broken out in the ratings as had hoped, and the shows aren't out of the woods yet.

The CW was expected to reap the rewards of having the combined fans of the highest-rated shows from each of the former networks. Instead, the new net pulls in about the same exact amount of viewers as either of those networks did by themselves.

Three episodes? Since when did networks buy in such small increments?

c('°c) (Leee), Friday, 10 November 2006 23:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking of WTF, I never really manage to watch this, but I was mostly just distracted by the giant Just Shoot Me reference involved in having Laura San Giacomo on that last episode. It was just ... weird.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 10 November 2006 23:46 (seventeen years ago) link

There have been a ton of cameos. I'm waiting for Piven to show up.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Friday, 10 November 2006 23:51 (seventeen years ago) link

this show never used to have so many silly literary/cultural refs

this show used to have a bad theme tune then I began to like it but now it is v rubbish

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 08:08 (seventeen years ago) link

and the lie abt diff, shorter, more contained, episodic story arcs

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 09:24 (seventeen years ago) link

apparently there's bad blood between Piven and the show's creator.

that episode was lame.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 04:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Mystery of the week was insipid. Logan drama was lame. Vinnie and Lamb were cool, and the thing at the end was pretty creepy, but that's about it.

clotpoll (Clotpoll), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 05:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Chili's on the O.C. and Veronica Mars in the same week?

svend (svend), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 05:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess I'm in the minority in actually liking this episode!

J (Jay), Saturday, 18 November 2006 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Saturday, 18 November 2006 21:30 (seventeen years ago) link

FUCKING.GREAT.EPISODE.

The quippery was fantastic, the MOTW was fun, finally some real Veronica/Logan-puppy chemistry, and PATTY HEARST.

I can't believe nobody's bothered to post about this yet.
