i was in the rain and couldn't find the place i was trying to get lunch (utrns out i was next door and mised it) so i walked into a coffee place to check my phone and grab a cof... turns out i walked into a "Nespresso Bar." there were like 6 staff and 8 ppl sitting inside. the staff was wearing like suits and had menus of coffee? i'm like uh i just want a fking coffe to go. so i look at the menu. FIVE DOLLARS (canadian) FOR A COFFEE. AND IT'S FROM A FUUUUCCCKKINNNGGG POOODDDDDDDDDD. of course i am too embarrassed to walk out so i buy one. i get the cup and im like oh at least it's a big cup and it's HALF FULL

That sucks. I don't get embarrassed about walking out of coffee places anymore. Sometimes the line is too long, they don't have what I want or it's just too expensive.

I have to say though being a barista is one of the worst jokes I have ever had. I loved it when people walked out.

i woulda walked out if it was busy, but the 1:1 staff:people ratio (and like wtf the dude was acting like a hotel concierge)

got a aeropress the other day. makes a *nice* cuppa! sorta between french press (which has been my go-to for years), and espresso. other bonus is clean-up is a breeze. got the metal filter instead of paper thinking i'm used to the oils that fp gives. i'm ok with only 8oz. cup but wish it were made for 12oz. wouldn't have to be much taller if it had more girth.

Our aeropresses have slowly lost suction (the rubber has worn down). I think we will have to spring for a third one. I have the metal filter too. I am kind of whatever with my coffee so I do a second press with the same grounds to get double the volume. I know it's wrong but I don't care.

Re the Nespresso bar xxxp, a treasured memory of mine is that Starbucks with much fanfare opened a branch in Lygon St, the heart of Melbourne's "little Italy", and the place was SHUNNED - lasted maybe a year and closed in defeat.

Why is that sometimes shitty office or diner coffee is inexplicably great? I'm not even talking about being in the mood for that kind of coffee, but literally from day to day from the same machine. Sometimes it just smells/tastes better.

x-post - ha yes. I was ridiculously jittery yesterday before I made the connection. Need to be mindful of how much I'm drinking. I have enough trouble sleeping as is.
