oh shit loooool

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 23:10 (eight years ago)

And people were worried about asterisks when Dela fell on her sword!

MarmiteGrrrl (Leee), Saturday, 17 March 2018 04:01 (eight years ago)

Weird. On the AV Club comments, people seemed to think that Thorgy picked Shangela's lipstick. I didn't see.

trishyb, Saturday, 17 March 2018 09:02 (eight years ago)

You can see it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCUtupzQosE

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 17 March 2018 16:35 (eight years ago)

shangela's mistake was to never have a true moment of vulnerability. when she did have one "moment" it was her bullying trixie over an innocuous note. she comes off as a quite exhausting person to be around, which is why she probably lost even though it seemed all signs were pointing to her winning.

clouds, Saturday, 17 March 2018 17:44 (eight years ago)

I think it was really unfair of the girls not to vote her into the Top 2 though. She did win the most challenges and lip synchs. Even Thorgy knew it was the right thing to do.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 17 March 2018 18:58 (eight years ago)

It's gotta totally suck for her. Her looks were on point through the entire season, her performances were great, she had obviously worked her ass off to get herself to this point compared to the busted shit she was peddling back in the day. If anyone deserved that crown it was her and I feel bad that she didn't get it. I mean, Kennedy pitched a good story at the last minute but no way did she show she's at the same level as Shangy. No way.
Not that 'deserving' is any kind of guarantee of a crown ever but I mean and obv its show-friends not show-business... but ffs, that kind of laser-focused dedication gives you queens like Alaska and Bianca, and Shangy deserves some credit from her peers for getting herself this far.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 March 2018 23:00 (eight years ago)

people are overreacting so much about this. it wasn't an injustice - it was the way the TV show game played out, where other queens' opinions of you became part of the arithmetic. even if they HAD been more impressed with her work (vs kennedy's), i still don't think it would have changed the final result. to spill so many words/tweets about whether a queen came third/fourth vs second (in a contest where only 1st gets a prize) seems like a lot of wasted indignation.

kennedy's fucking amazing. her performance in the final setpiece thing ALONE made the case for her finishing ahead of shangela at the end.

sean gramophone, Sunday, 18 March 2018 04:35 (eight years ago)

plus they are all friends irl so none of the hand-wringing matters lol

clouds, Sunday, 18 March 2018 18:08 (eight years ago)

If I can't endlessly pick over the tiny slights and shade of who said what to whom, what am I even doing watching a drag competition?

trishyb, Sunday, 18 March 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

tru

comment threads on ru-girl posts are too much though lately, am fully avoiding them at this point (which i guess i should always do regardless)

clouds, Sunday, 18 March 2018 18:17 (eight years ago)

exactly

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 18 March 2018 18:56 (eight years ago)

I want more time btwn seasons! I'm going to get RPDR burnout

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 19 March 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 19 March 2018 18:29 (eight years ago)

I worry that "strike while the iron is hot" is going to screw up the supply-demand balance here.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Monday, 19 March 2018 19:10 (eight years ago)

The All-Stars should have been like last time -- late summer/early fall. But here we are.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 March 2018 19:23 (eight years ago)

Anyway, Katya's back and...saucy.

Hello friends,
We are taping the podcast “Whimsically Volatile” right now. First episode comes out this week. Stay tuned. xx K pic.twitter.com/KYuJ3JaxM2

— Katya (@katya_zamo) March 19, 2018

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 March 2018 21:56 (eight years ago)

A Katya podcast?!?! Best news ever.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 March 2018 02:03 (eight years ago)

I made it 2/3 of the way through Katya’s podcast this morning (its 2 hours) and it was... challenging. It felt manic and incoherent and cringey maybe like she’s not in a good place? She discussed a meth relapse, eviction, a heart attack, a near-restraining order, an arrest, rehab, all while going off on weird unfunny wordplay tangents and stuff, like a hyperactive 10 year old. It feels like the type of stories people tell where it’s like “all this stuff happened and I was in a bad place, but now I am in a good place and that is behind me” except that it feels like she’s still in the bad place

I can’t tell if somethings going on or if she’s just always been like this and we don’t know because she’s always edited well.

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 17:42 (eight years ago)

That sounds pretty much the same as what I saw in a couple of her Periscopes, tbh -- e.g. when she announced her mental health break, she did it entirely in French. Often erudite, sometimes obscure, not always funny, but always weird and stream-of-consciousness.

MarmiteGrrrl (Leee), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 17:50 (eight years ago)

Most podcast episodes are too damn long, admittedly.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 17:51 (eight years ago)

agree with you stevie.

also maybe one of the problems/products of mania + fame: decline in (self?) discernment

sean gramophone, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 18:06 (eight years ago)

Well this might be a cheerier listen (which I'm about to do right now)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 22 March 2018 22:48 (eight years ago)

these queens are kinda fun this season.
big ole crush on Monet X Change out of drag

those two alike queens, Aquarius and Cracker give me the creeps, theyre like Shining twins, idk if i can hang with them

Vanessa was a trip. That voice! I was hoping i’d get some Chi-Chi with her. oh well.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 March 2018 06:43 (eight years ago)

ANKH ANKH had me dying laughing

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 March 2018 06:43 (eight years ago)

Yeah I liked Vanessa, having her go first was not fun, but someone had to go.

And yes, fun bunch in general, I'd say! I like the vibe, I think having All Stars all these past weeks was just getting to the point of overfamiliarity so everything seems even fresher. And an actual design challenge, who knew.

The Christina intro would have been great if they hadn't played up she was going to be in the episode, but I suppose it was like Gaga last year.

So Blair St. Clair would have been 12, 13 when the show started. Yup, they're definitely going to be growing up with the show now.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 March 2018 12:47 (eight years ago)

Don't @ me, but is Blair going to turn out to be FTM?

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Friday, 23 March 2018 15:26 (eight years ago)

idk. that’d be an interesting twist!!

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 March 2018 17:01 (eight years ago)

It didn't register until the fifth New York queen walked in on last night's episode, but the Big Apple's on a crazy tear right now. Season 8 and 9's winners were New York girls, and I wouldn't be surprised if this year's is too.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Friday, 23 March 2018 20:54 (eight years ago)

Could see it, yeah. Just need to shake everyone out first. I could see Eureka making it to the end, at least.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 March 2018 21:35 (eight years ago)

Hope Mayhem goes all the way, i like her

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:36 (eight years ago)

those two alike queens, Aquarius and Cracker give me the creeps, theyre like Shining twins, idk if i can hang with them

:I

Aquarius is Shannon Needle's drag daughter. Miz Cracker is funny. I think you'll come around to at least one of them (as long as it's Cracker).

The Vixen feels like she's going to be Too Much at some point, but for now, I can at least drink in *that bone structure*.

I'm a little disappointed that Christina doesn't have or at least didn't show off a drop dead Farrah Groan impression.

I didn't want Vanessa to go because I've still got lots of love for Alexis, but based on her outfit and lip sync, I can't argue against the outcome. (I think maybe she was a bit traumatized at being in the bottom and it just sucked the energy out of her.)

Kameron Michaels' drag name should be Tariffs because she's about to set off a whole big trade war.

Kind of scary how much Yuhua looks like an old crush -- such perfect teeth.

zig zag ziggurat (Leee), Saturday, 24 March 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)

I wish they would find a way to keep everyone in for the first two shows. I feel like people are only just getting their feet under them and then they're being sent home. Maybe I only feel like that this year, though, because they are all of a pretty high standard out of the gate.

trishyb, Saturday, 24 March 2018 21:47 (eight years ago)

agree

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 March 2018 23:00 (eight years ago)

love how much Ru loves saying Yuhua Hoe

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 March 2018 23:01 (eight years ago)

this was the best opening episode of a season in about three years and it's great to be watching this for plesure again rather than any sense of obligation

boxedjoy, Sunday, 25 March 2018 07:04 (eight years ago)

Yeah I was bummed to see Vanessa go home, she seemed capable but there were no clear clunkers (or if there are the editors were clever enough not to show it).

Also I hate this dumb masc muscle queen who won’t stop talking about how muscle masc butch he is, oof

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 25 March 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

yeah he’s cute but idk. his runway look was kinda busted.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 25 March 2018 14:45 (eight years ago)

She'll be gone by episode 4.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Sunday, 25 March 2018 16:01 (eight years ago)

Can't believe Eureka's "I just saw" isn't a meme yet. I need it for something.

living for the camaraderie/vibe on Monet + Monique Heart + Mayhem on Untucked

on a character level, Monique Heart generally just 0_0

if aquaria wants to stick around she is going to have to improve her attitude + execution
in the battle of the petite funny arty new york white girls, only one shall survive

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 27 March 2018 17:31 (eight years ago)

If Aquaria wants to stick around she just needs to serve consistent mediocrity and be strategically ~sweet and vulnerable. Thems the rules, apparently.

Cousin Slappy, Tuesday, 27 March 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)

There's a newish BBC podcast called Unpopped, which is all about pop culture. The episode about Drag Race is a good listen.

trishyb, Tuesday, 27 March 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

BTW, you all catch this?
