we're taking a break (and saving a little cash) from the excellent Sump beans i've bragged on on here. been drinking this ikea coffee we've had in the cabinet that we got as kind of a joke. like, how good could it be! well, it's a little weird but not awful. still prepare it pour-over style cuz we no longer have a drip maker.

iced coffee is best in a clear glass imogenerally hot coffee should never be in a glass, but one exception is for cortados, i dig those little cortado glasses

i accept these exceptions

It can be kind of cool to see the layering of espresso/milk/foam from side view when it's done well. I generally prefer ceramic but I don't have a special objection to hot coffee in glass tbh.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 16 March 2018 21:22 (eight years ago)
i miss little lattes in glasses like they have everywhere in Melbourne but gtfo with glass mugs & straws
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 22:42 (eight years ago)
i always perceive the coffee to be hotter and weaker from a glass. i don't even want to drink it. a dark, heavy mug is my preference.

I have red ceramic, but usually my tea cup (Chinese purple clay w/ white glazed interior) is the only thing sitting in the sink. I like the idea of getting a set of French coffee bowls:

a cafe here serves their lattes in those french bowls, I like it but it also kind of feels like drinking my cereal milk as a kid.
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 March 2018 23:02 (eight years ago)
You mean like a mug w/o the handle?Verve does that
― F# A# (∞), Sunday, 18 March 2018 01:47 (eight years ago)
Fuck drinking cof from a bowl. The French are complete savages when it comes to cof, cf gigantic gross cappuccinos and “French roast” coffee.

A few years ago at least (maybe things have since changed) my sister-in-law who lived there told me the French sneered at the American new wave of coffee as "globalist coffee." You dumb fucks, where do you think they grow coffee in the first place, the Rhone Valley?
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 19 March 2018 03:06 (eight years ago)

Every coffee culture innovation since the bean was discovered by the Ethiopian goatherd Kaldi has been for the worse.
― Bring the Paine (Sanpaku), Monday, 19 March 2018 03:50 (eight years ago)
Since “globalist” just means “Jewish” I want to know what “Jewish coffee” supposedly is
― valorous wokelord (silby), Monday, 19 March 2018 03:52 (eight years ago)
I think they mean it more in the sense of the anti-globalism movement that took off in the 90s and had special traction in France. As in globalism replacing local culture. Which is very silly in the case of coffee, a product that has been inherently globalist for centuries.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 19 March 2018 04:52 (eight years ago)
the French sneering at anyone's coffee is pretty lols. don't get me wrong i love French cafe culture but it's in spite of the coffee not because of it

i hate the classic single-wall plastic keepcups but i have to admit i'm drawn to their new glass-n-cork model― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 March 2018 8:17 AM (six days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Glass keep cup is the way to go, but silicone band as it is easier to wash.

Also French coffee is the worst.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 19 March 2018 11:05 (eight years ago)
Proper keep cup method is to drink from the glass and use the lid to stop brown goo accumulating at the bottom of one’s bag.

I just wish they made a 6oz one in glass, as my ideal order is a strong, dry cap in a 6oz cup.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 19 March 2018 11:16 (eight years ago)
Dry foam is rarely achieved.
Haven't you heard the old joke? "how does the frenchman drink his coffee?"
"like an asshole!"

Keep cup is a reusable coffee cup, not insulated, although given that it’s targetted at espresso drinks I don’t think that’s a problem, drink before they get cold.
