i actually got sucked in and poked a few old school friends who i havent spoken to in years.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:47 (sixteen years ago) link
worse than old school friends though is women you went out with who it didnt work out with poking you. WHY?
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:48 (sixteen years ago) link
Well, she wants to get JIZZY with you. I said JIZZY, yes, JIZZY.
― nathalie, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:49 (sixteen years ago) link
ha but no, i think she just wants me to click 'ADD' and bump up her friends list (although facebook doesnt seem nearly as bad for that as myspace).
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:55 (sixteen years ago) link
I repeat: JIZZY with ya! ;-)
― nathalie, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:57 (sixteen years ago) link
i added them anyway lol
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:57 (sixteen years ago) link
throw her a banana and add "stuff it" message
― nathalie, Monday, 2 July 2007 12:59 (sixteen years ago) link
Can you help me with something? If I want to find old friends, and I search their name and lots of people come up and it's not immediately apparent if any of them are who I'm looking for, how do I see their full profile?
― Mark C, Monday, 2 July 2007 13:00 (sixteen years ago) link
You can't. Send them a message or something and ask if they are who you think they are.
― Ms Misery, Monday, 2 July 2007 13:03 (sixteen years ago) link
I think you can click on a person's name and see a list of who their friends are .... that might narrow it down, if you recognise any of those names.
― C J, Monday, 2 July 2007 13:03 (sixteen years ago) link
Dear Mr Carlin
Are you Mr Carlin? If so I want to friend you. Please provide confirmation of identity, including full bank details, passport number and comprehensive list of all worldly goods and chattels.
Sincerely etc.
I think I get enough of those types of email from Nigeria...
― Marcello Carlin, Monday, 2 July 2007 13:08 (sixteen years ago) link
I've been seduced by FB for the past couple of weeks but now I am drifting back to the ILX fold.
― Hard like armour, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 04:13 (sixteen years ago) link
You can usually tell by looking at their friends list, I find. If you've got any people or places in common that's usually the giveaway.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:04 (sixteen years ago) link
searching friends' friends, or looking for groups/networks people from the past might be in, is the better way of finding people.
the "find people via your email contacts list" reveals only that i have NO IDEA who most of the people in my gmail address book are.
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:39 (sixteen years ago) link
"find people via your email contacts list" = "would you like to add everyone you've ever bought or sold something to on Amazon marketplace?"

When people poke you, are you supposed to poke them back? What's the point of it? There's no message with it or anything.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:53 (sixteen years ago) link
Poking is a way of saying hello i am here and i want to fuck you...but for people without the confidence to actually say or even imply it
― Filey Camp, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:55 (sixteen years ago) link
You ask for money to be paypaled to you. A tenner normally unless it's without the glove, then it's twenty. (xpost)

― Rubyred, Thursday, 5 July 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link
What? It's just letting'em know you're here/there.
― nathalie, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:01 (sixteen years ago) link

There are a bunch of people on FB from ILX that I would like to friend but think it would through them off because they wouldn't know who I was. What to do?
― ENBB, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link
I think a poke to a non-friend allows them to see your profile for a limited period ("yes, it is me - I sat next to you in Geography in 1983 and now I like embroidery and Wolf Eyes"); if they poke you back you can see their profile. From such jabbing beautiful "friend"ships are rekindled. Any subsequent pokes are for laffs.
There are apparently 686,000 Londoners on Facebook.
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:22 (sixteen years ago) link
So far I only have ILX0rs I've actually met in IRL as friends, but that's not a conscious decision on my part. I don't think I've actually added any ILX0rs yet anyway, they've added me. I was the same as you, wasn't sure if I should or not!
xpost the pokes I was talking about were from people who are already friends, so it wasn't to add me or anything, that's why I wondered what it was for.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:23 (sixteen years ago) link
Did you add me yet, I cannot recall.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:24 (sixteen years ago) link
Ned - Me or CP? You were one of my first FB friends.
― ENBB, Thursday, 5 July 2007 14:25 (sixteen years ago) link
Ned trying to brag he has a gazillion friends on FB. ;-)

former left-wing comrade is now in the "I WILL BE A BILLIONAIRE" group, who's a self-employed investor/stock trader.
Facebook, why u shatter memories/illusions?
― milo z, Thursday, 5 July 2007 20:11 (sixteen years ago) link
is a 'self-employed investor/stock trader' - feel like scare quotes are a necessity there.
― milo z, Thursday, 5 July 2007 20:12 (sixteen years ago) link
i got poked, poked them back, never heard back from them again. which is how i like it. usually the etiquette seems to be that you get poked, then add the person.
