The stuff about class in Cheers seems p real to me now that I live in the approximate Greater Boston Area. I don't know what stratum of Pacific Northwest society Frasier and Niles would even be aspiring to; if anything, the joke seems to be that they don't know themselves?

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Thursday, 8 March 2018 20:43 (eight years ago)

yeah, iirc in cheers frasier started as a proper posh snob and sort of became the british-aspirational type post-diane, by the time he got his own show his working class roots had become the whole point

reverse-periscoping (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 8 March 2018 21:03 (eight years ago)

and T Danson KILLS IT on this show, i literally had no idea he was so funny (my bad.

He was great in Bored to Death too

groovypanda, Thursday, 8 March 2018 21:38 (eight years ago)

He shows up in season 2 of Fargo! Which I am currently watching.

Yerac, Thursday, 8 March 2018 21:50 (eight years ago)

by all accounts he’s a really nice guy too, which must factor into the amount of work he’s been getting

reverse-periscoping (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 8 March 2018 21:59 (eight years ago)

He's very much channeling Matt Smith in Doctor Who, which is a good thing in my book

Mince Pramthwart (James Morrison), Friday, 9 March 2018 00:18 (eight years ago)

He was excellent on HBO’s Bored to Death. He’s been consistently working since ... forever? He and Steenburgen just seem like great, super professional across.

rb (soda), Friday, 9 March 2018 00:36 (eight years ago)

was great in Damages too, plus he was a regular on Curb for a while, right?

na (NA), Friday, 9 March 2018 01:28 (eight years ago)

Bored to Death sucked but he was good in it

Simon H., Friday, 9 March 2018 01:29 (eight years ago)

he's still on Curb

No. Fuck off. No. You terrible and toxic influence on young girls. I admire their mother’s branding capabilities, she is an exploitative but innovative genius, however this family makes me feel actual despair over what women are reduced to. ☹️ pic.twitter.com/zDPN1T8sBM

Apparently D'arcy Carden spells her name that way because she was a Smashing Pumpkins fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF1RB2IPfTo (Which makes me love her more, though ymmv)

Kinda got a crush on D'Arcy Carden

I really wish Netflix or Hulu would put out the full 2nd season so I could get caught up.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 20:33 (seven years ago)

it's available on DVD in the US via Netflix

sleeve, Tuesday, 24 July 2018 21:03 (seven years ago)

But that means I have to send back my other DVD!

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 21:04 (seven years ago)

Slightly sad that the American market for physical media is still ~45% 480p DVD, a dozen years after the introduction of backwards compatible 1080p blu-ray players. As an American with only a 120" screen, I own the UK S1 blu-ray, and am also sad that S2 won't be released until Feb 11, 2019.

As an American with only a 120" screen

this is the new nabisco having to rent a car without a CD player that one time

lol

mookieproof, Tuesday, 24 July 2018 21:42 (seven years ago)

Nope. A refurbed projector was cheaper than a panel TV. Its pretty ideal for me, as I don't "watch TV", I put on films for (sometimes) a couple hours a day.

Roomba with an attitude (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 22:40 (seven years ago)

However, this does make my DVD collection mostly accumulated a decade ago look pants. What you don't notice at 42" (resolution, compression artifacts) is pretty damn evident at 120".

Roomba with an attitude (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 22:41 (seven years ago)

NBC was pretty shrewd with restricting access to the good place season 2 via streaming.. I was only able to watch earlier eps (more recent ones were on hulu) via the nbc app, which required a cable subscription

Given my interests, how did I not know that Tahani is dating James Blake irl? Learned it from an Azealia Banks tweet, lol.

through episode 6 of this, getting huge laughs from me

he says almost every artist is in the bad place but he also says Beyoncé is 104% perfect???

crüt, Thursday, 20 September 2018 15:20 (seven years ago)

i guess beyonce isn't dead yet in that particular moment? (also opens up more questions about how time works in the afterlife that they haven't addressed yet)

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 29 September 2018 00:57 (seven years ago)

I was worried this season would start with the gag being Eleanor driving Chidi crazy at college, or something. I love how she vibed with everything right from the start.

Goodbye Bono.
Goodbye The Edge.
Goodbye The Edge's real number that Bono doesn't know about.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 29 September 2018 03:33 (seven years ago)

I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it! It just felt really flat to me for some reason. Some good gags, though; hopefully it's just the work of establishing the stage.

Leaghaidh am brón an t-anam bochd (dowd), Saturday, 29 September 2018 07:09 (seven years ago)

I loved how they answered all the fan questions about what language Chidi speaks, and about his accent. And I love Simone. Between this, Killing Eve, and Barry, Kirby Howell Baptiste is having some year. Fair play to her.

trishyb, Saturday, 29 September 2018 07:24 (seven years ago)

New season just starting yay.
Circulating through other means if you're not getting it terrestrially btw.
Assume it must be even over here though.

Mr Veg laughed extra hard at the Marx burn bcz I am a superfan - I pretended to pout for his benefit

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 29 September 2018 17:59 (seven years ago)

That's maybe why I didn't like it - I'm a big Richard Marx stan.
