Double kissoff:

My partner of almost three years is trans, and #bendelachrist help anyone who tries to tell him what he can and can’t do. Just sayin’.

Annnd walkback.

Each morning I pray to set aside everything I THINK I know, so I may have an open mind and a new experience. I understand and regret the hurt I have caused. The trans community are heroes of our shared LGBTQ movement. You are my teachers. pic.twitter.com/80Qi2halN2

I mean, anyone who's listened to a few episodes of Ru's podcast knows that he is essentially fighting the same battle as Lady Bunny (albeit in a minor key, taciturn) against identity politics.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Tuesday, 6 March 2018 22:42 (eight years ago)

Agreed

Ru still adheres to his own version of “how things are” and no matter what lipservice he pays to embracing change, you know that he resents being called out and privately will just keep right on thinking and saying a whole bunch of outdated shit that he still thinks is “edgy” bcz he stopped absorbing opinions in like 1998

I like him as a personality but the real truth is that deep down he is kind of a narcissistic wackadoodle and ppl should maybe stop seeking his opinion

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 02:04 (eight years ago)

I mean Alex in Montreal and I were saying on Twitter yesterday per his initial posts that in a perverse way Ru -- or WoW or whatever exact combination -- got what they wanted, an amazing high profile collection of American/American-based queens, performers, voices that combined with social media/technology providing ever more outlets for them at low cost. A legacy was established, but it never meant that they were going to be drones -- how could they!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 02:23 (eight years ago)

I've still never seen an episode of this show but omg this is so amazing

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 15:16 (eight years ago)

It is and she looks stunning.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 17:01 (eight years ago)

Yes!!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 17:04 (eight years ago)

I was in NYC last week and went to see the episode at the bar in Brooklyn where Acid Betty hosts! It was so much fun. The place went nuts at Ben's anouncement. I chatted with Betty a bit after the show and she was really friendly and funny. She looked great too.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 17:24 (eight years ago)

Le Tigre is perhaps the most famous band to come out of the late-’90s Riot Grrl scene.

>=(

Rick Wokeman (Leee), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

I mean is that wrong though??

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 21:37 (eight years ago)

SK are surely better known than Le Tigre! (Unless you want to dispute that SK are riot grrrl.)

Anyway, it kind of baffles me that Ru is opposed to identity politics, since his brand of gender semiotics/structuralism can only exist by acknowledging identity politics.

Rick Wokeman (Leee), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 22:08 (eight years ago)

hm true, I guess I think of them as being in diff realms but you're prob right

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 8 March 2018 14:36 (eight years ago)

Anyway, looking ahead:

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 8 March 2018 21:53 (eight years ago)

Okay that was a guest appearance on the show last night I didn't expect in a million years.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 9 March 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)

also i was secretly hoping soneone would finally send Bebe home but I knew it wd never happen

rip Morgan :/

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 9 March 2018 17:24 (eight years ago)

You and me both, sis!

Bebe has bugged me all season tbh, and she's deluding herself as much as Milk (albeit more introspectively) if she really believes she's done well.

MarmiteGrrrl (Leee), Sunday, 11 March 2018 19:30 (eight years ago)

yeah she has literally done nothing but ~be Bebe~ this whole time

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 March 2018 19:38 (eight years ago)

i stopped feeling like there were some shenanigans going on w/ bebe after the spice girls challenge (i'm pussy bitch)

J0rdan S., Sunday, 11 March 2018 19:39 (eight years ago)

that was the one where i was like "ah ok you can really perform"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 11 March 2018 19:39 (eight years ago)

She can perform anything as long as she can be Bebe.

I also don't really see the point of her being a spy. Is she going to tell Ru that Shangela's been calling herself Daenerys Targaryen?

MarmiteGrrrl (Leee), Sunday, 11 March 2018 23:21 (eight years ago)

Who are the top 5 most #iconic queens to last 3 or fewer episodes? this is my list

Tammie Brown
Nicole Paige Brooks
Mimi Imfurst
Jasmine Masters
Jaymes Mansfield

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 12 March 2018 19:26 (eight years ago)

Yeah thats a good list

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 March 2018 19:36 (eight years ago)

Kelly Mantle maybe instead of Jaymes.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Monday, 12 March 2018 19:39 (eight years ago)

If I never have to look at Milk again I will be happy.

trishyb, Friday, 16 March 2018 15:15 (eight years ago)

what was that crotcheted nightmare she was wearing o_O

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 15:43 (eight years ago)

I think you summed it up.

Anyway! Well that was pleasant enough. Honestly am shocked Shangela wasn't top two, so much for all the endless Game of Thronesing. And Trixie did kill at the lip sync.

But I'm pretty ready for next week.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 16 March 2018 15:58 (eight years ago)

this season got wayyyyyyyyyyy too meta imo. what happened to the best queen wins?

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 16 March 2018 18:48 (eight years ago)

Seems to me like Ru didn't want to be the bad guy by having to slide a credit card between all those queens, so he got the eliminated queens to be the bad guys for him.

trishyb, Friday, 16 March 2018 18:58 (eight years ago)

yeah that was some Mean Girls shit, pulling the rug out from Shangy like that. Glad Trixie won though!

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 19:19 (eight years ago)

Milk's dress reminded me of the knitted dissected frogs I've seen.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 16 March 2018 19:54 (eight years ago)

what was all over her face?

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 19:57 (eight years ago)

It was genuinely impossible to tell whether or not it was supposed to look like that.

trishyb, Friday, 16 March 2018 20:04 (eight years ago)

Had we talked about this artist before?

oh shit loooool

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 March 2018 23:10 (eight years ago)

And people were worried about asterisks when Dela fell on her sword!

MarmiteGrrrl (Leee), Saturday, 17 March 2018 04:01 (eight years ago)

Weird. On the AV Club comments, people seemed to think that Thorgy picked Shangela's lipstick. I didn't see.

trishyb, Saturday, 17 March 2018 09:02 (eight years ago)

You can see it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCUtupzQosE

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 17 March 2018 16:35 (eight years ago)

shangela's mistake was to never have a true moment of vulnerability. when she did have one "moment" it was her bullying trixie over an innocuous note. she comes off as a quite exhausting person to be around, which is why she probably lost even though it seemed all signs were pointing to her winning.

clouds, Saturday, 17 March 2018 17:44 (eight years ago)

I think it was really unfair of the girls not to vote her into the Top 2 though. She did win the most challenges and lip synchs. Even Thorgy knew it was the right thing to do.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 17 March 2018 18:58 (eight years ago)

It's gotta totally suck for her. Her looks were on point through the entire season, her performances were great, she had obviously worked her ass off to get herself to this point compared to the busted shit she was peddling back in the day. If anyone deserved that crown it was her and I feel bad that she didn't get it. I mean, Kennedy pitched a good story at the last minute but no way did she show she's at the same level as Shangy. No way.
Not that 'deserving' is any kind of guarantee of a crown ever but I mean and obv its show-friends not show-business... but ffs, that kind of laser-focused dedication gives you queens like Alaska and Bianca, and Shangy deserves some credit from her peers for getting herself this far.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 March 2018 23:00 (eight years ago)

people are overreacting so much about this. it wasn't an injustice - it was the way the TV show game played out, where other queens' opinions of you became part of the arithmetic. even if they HAD been more impressed with her work (vs kennedy's), i still don't think it would have changed the final result. to spill so many words/tweets about whether a queen came third/fourth vs second (in a contest where only 1st gets a prize) seems like a lot of wasted indignation.

kennedy's fucking amazing. her performance in the final setpiece thing ALONE made the case for her finishing ahead of shangela at the end.
