the day Leeds got relegated from the Prem, we had some fun bantz with a load of Leeds scum on the train. We'd just had a L2 playoff win in Lincoln and they'd just suffered an arsekicking at Stamford Bridge. It's hilarious that they still haven't been back in the bigtime since then. A real tonic in these tough times!

I thought Mansour's crew would have been better off buying Leeds than city, long term.

Dyer comes across alright, considering the negative view of him. True Geordie podcasts are LONG, but it means the guests get more into stuff properly than they would normally

anvil, Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:25 (eight years ago)

Someone told me Leeds is the biggest city in Europe that hosts only one football club. Which makes their attendances pretty tinpot tbh. But yeah, they could be a real behemoth at some point, hopefully never!

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:32 (eight years ago)

Lucky Leeds, they got the relatively skint Arab investors who were out to make a quick buck.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:35 (eight years ago)

memories of many pub conversations with people explaining to me how fucking massive Leeds Utd are, are coming back to me in waves of pain and hilarity!

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:48 (eight years ago)

sleeping giant, one of them dead ones

Under the influence of the Ranters (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:52 (eight years ago)

a pointy drunken Leeds fan once told me that the city is such an important financial sector that the EPL wouldn't allow them to be relegated.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 12:52 (eight years ago)

looooooool

dutty, dutty Leeds

Someone told me Leeds is the biggest city in Europe that hosts only one football club.

Just mulling this one over trying to work out if it's true. All I've come up with so far is Marseille and Lyon (and I'm not 100% sure if they're bigger and only have one team).

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:11 (eight years ago)

I'd love that one to be debunked, but alas it is probably true.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:13 (eight years ago)

Utrecht agglomerate has 500,000 inhabitants and only one pro club.

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:15 (eight years ago)

Fucking AMSTERDAM only has one pro club!

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:15 (eight years ago)

yr welcome

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:16 (eight years ago)

It's no Leeds tho

What happened to DWS Amsterdam?

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:20 (eight years ago)

Kazan only has one team iirc and a higher urban population. Leeds often claims a higher population by counting surrounding areas though.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:22 (eight years ago)

I could imagine some spurious counterarguement about greater catchment areas blah blah, watevs your DIV 2, dutty Leeds losers!

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:23 (eight years ago)

fans from the heavy woollen district and Calder Valley are traitorous scum and don't count.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:24 (eight years ago)

Lol Tom u old. DWS quit being pro in '72 iirc.

You'll need to have some love outside your town to have a decent fan base. From the relatively short time I lived around those parts I know there's just no love for Leeds once you pass the name sign.

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)

Used to be a local piss-take about Birmingham City being the club from the biggest city in Europe that's never won fuck all of worth but that's a bit abstruse

Under the influence of the Ranters (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)

marseilles has a larger pop than leeds (850 thou in 2010 to 700 thou today)

I'm afraid a childhood full of Rothmans Football Yearbooks has left me with a extensive knowledge of obscure football teams form every corner of Europe.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:28 (eight years ago)

Much respect. They actually played a QF EU cup in 1970 or so iirc. A lot of pro clubs disappeared in those years bcz money

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:29 (eight years ago)

LBI that's not true, used to be loads of dutty Leeds fans in Hull before City made the top flight

Under the influence of the Ranters (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:29 (eight years ago)

the netflix show MARSEILLE is (among other things) abt the dirty politics surrounding the potential sale of stadium to developers, it stars gerard depardieu in a fat suit, it is LIT

mark s, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:29 (eight years ago)

when I was a kid I used to spend hours poring over old Rothmans books. Ahh the pre-internet days eh?

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:30 (eight years ago)

Leeds, villa, arsenal and spurs all reasonable second teams to support here in my youth

Chelsea no, man city no, Burnley no, Everton no

things you looked shockingly old when you wore (darraghmac), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:31 (eight years ago)

Naples, Marseille, Makhachkala, Ekaterinburg, Palermo, Nizhny Novgorod?

Leeds can't claim surrounding catchment area otherwise they'd have to include their teams as well!

anvil, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:31 (eight years ago)

I can't be arsed looking up but is the programme cancelled this weekend or what

As well as Rothman's does anybody remember those little Littlewoods's or Setters almanacs?

Under the influence of the Ranters (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:42 (eight years ago)

I've seen traces of White terror in the Halifax/Burnley borderlands before, but not deep into Burnley country. But this was 10 years ago, possibly their sphere of influence isn't quite what it used to be.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)

How far down the A62 does it stretch, Dewsbury? Ive always thought the spilt milk flowed North, East and South but never west

anvil, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:49 (eight years ago)

Oh plenty of those in Batley, Ossett, Dewsbury. Hudds having their training ground in Heckmondwike in the Herbert Chapman days and into the 50's left a legacy of Town fans that is still going quite strong. It is probably a 50/50 split in some places.

calzino, Saturday, 3 March 2018 13:57 (eight years ago)

based on the exact science of observing car stickers of course!

This sounds wrong to me, though it may be true by some definitions of “football club” and “biggest”. Amsterdam, for example?
