I’m not sure any part of this thread has reached heated status imo. Here is my capsule review.

I have a strong general animus to anything that reeks of nostalgia but there have been one or two digressions that were sort of edifying. Also y’all are some mopey fucks.

yeah i've never met any of you folks and it took me years to start being able to tell you apart. raggett and whiney spent years blurred together in my head. similarly tylerw and imago. it's only now that the board is "dying" that i can recognize anybody here as individuals!

Yeah, there are a few dozen posters who stand out as distinct entities in my mind but without the presence of, like, faces and voices and other distinguishing features beyond passages of text on a blank white screen, the identities of a lot of other people here are an unfortunate blur for me.

re: the issue of "nicey-nice" ilx - like anyone who spent any amount of time on usenet, i've got a lot of experience slinging invective. i like it, in fact - in the same way that i like drinking. 2018 ilx appeals to me because it's encouraged me to moderate unhealthy personal habits.

I'm half asshole on my dad's side, so I always appreciate environments that discourage indulgence in that unfortunate heritage.

there's a sort of wild psychedelic freedom hidden in this music that i'm absolutely barmy for. like at their best they could be among the foremost exponents of the american wpf, just like the boredoms are for japanese, julian cope for english, faust for german etc idk what even is freedom
