btw i've complained about this on the other chess thread i'm pretty sure but i'm always shocked at how shitty the attitude and behavior of some of these players are considering that you'd figure chess attracts a more sophisticated thinker?

the lichess chat window says "please be nice in the chat" right in the entry field lol tbh no one has been rude to me on there, online poker is def a million times worse, the site i play on recently replaced chat with a bunch of pre made messages u cn choose from nice hand bad beat and so forth

i think its still the most popular, lichess just has a pleasant website imo

i dont think anyone has an innate ability to play chess, might want to try playing against the computer some to get reps, being to take back moves is a good learning tool + losing to the computer doesnt feel as bad

i have an iphone app just called "chess" the developer is mastersoft u can set the skill of the engine to whatever you want then itll automatically raise it as you beat the levels it has hints and takebacks etc

oh thanks for sharing this - this is precisely something i've wanted to understand better partic coordinating bishops and pawn placement and trading bad bishops for good bishops

yeah that one was a bit of a revelation for me

one thing ive noticed abt players at my level including myself is being almost blind to threats when theyre attacking, just won two games in a row off of very easily defended mates when i was under fire, being under time control prob doesnt help too

yeah I try to always 1st think "ok what can my opponent do to me" rather than "what can I unleash on them" when appraising things after their move

sometimes they thing youre attacking a pawn instead of their king lol

i've been seeing so many philidor defenses lately. it's such a conservative opening and it dooms black's dark squared pawn to the back ranks. don't really understand why ppl like it.

just hit 1200 in 10 min blitz for the first time. my 15|10 is much better. has anyone else noticed that their blitz rating is significantly smaller than longer formats?

ive exclusively played 5+3 so far, shd start playing longer im sure itd help my game overall

that's what i've heard - that you get much more out of playing longer formats. but it's just so nice to play in these 10 min bursts and not have to worry about games dragging on.

ive played 3 10+0 games and am rated 1675 there, abt to get repeatedly owned lol

lol yeah when i first started playing 10m my score was ridiculously high for 3-4 games and then it came down to earth

amazing to beat a 1675 tho and sounds like an uncharacteristic mistake at that level of play
