Why do people leave ILX for good?

Ages ago, I wrote what was easily my most vitriolic post on the board in response to a shitty attack post by someone I subsequently spent ages thinking was a total dick and who I now think is a pretty cool dude and poster. ILX clearly demonstrates that bridges can be mended if one posts from a place of openness and love. Namaste.

yeah, that's happened to me more than once too. and a lot of the times it goes the other way, too, where i was being a complete dick to someone for no reason and then gradually realized that the other person was a human being who was actually really interesting

my posting has slowed down a lot, or it feels like it has. i peaked years ago! i don't really have much to talk about on here these days nor much to contribute. i'm not disinterested, but i'm beginning to feel like i want to hang on for one last big poll and then get out. like a heist movie. except I'm heisting music recommendations.

lots of the posters i was pals with back in the day i don't really talk to anymore, but that's maybe bc I'm not one who's ever met anyone IRL (except JBR for about a minute, and she's great!)

I do believe that every ILXor I've met IRL has been gone from the board for a decade+ at this point.

now i just post GIFs to watch their fuckin' expression change etc

w/r/t recruitment, i have done my part by both speaking with people in person and virtually

have successfully gotten a handful of people on board but they all give me the same feedback

also i think these are good but different times

people get nostalgic for the past or for what can't be had

the seemingly decline in big cultural tentpole moments is a factor for me. a lot of what made ilx fun for me was participating in those threads. although i guess a new star wars can be relied upon to come out every year. i think this is especially apparent on the music side. i mean just look at what was #1 for the tracks poll! a song nobody loved.

maybe that's another way of saying lots of good discussion can be found somewhere else, and also maybe that i'm less interested in engaging with the 'culture' nowadays. i will say ilx is nice though in that it's often a refuge from the hysteria present on other social media like twitter, the politics thread is often a good splash of cold water from trump fear.

also unfortunate is the number of shitty posts blanketing the board from posters like infinity symbol which makes finding the good stuff that much harder.

anyway! ilx is dead, long live ilx.

yea I admit I spent a lot of time trying to rile people up in the old days and a lot of my opinions were flat out dumb. one big moment for me was when I used the word "uppity" in the "is this racist" thread and a lot of people gave me shit for using such a "racially charged word". but I *honest to God* never remembering hearing the word in that context (or just didn't realize it at the time) so I thought all you guys were trolling me so I kept trolling back even harder, and then I looked it up and it turns out it IS a racially charged word, and I wanted to go and say "my bad" but wound up with 68,000 SBs and couldn't post for a while

lol I tried to get into the discord chat the other day and I guess it's gone or something. I don't understand the new ways of using the internet.
