xp i never played flappy bird because i wasn't able to. the creator of flappy bird pulled it from distribution because he felt "immense shame" about people becoming addicted to it and their productivity going down.
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:31 (eight years ago)
Flappy Bird was removed from both the App Store and Google Play by its creator on February 10, 2014, due to guilt over what he considered to be its addictive nature and overuse. The game's popularity and sudden removal caused phones with it pre-installed to be put up for sale for high prices over the Internet. Games similar to Flappy Bird became popular on the iTunes App Store in the wake of its removal, and both Apple and Google have removed games from their app stores for being too similar to the original. The game has also been distributed through unofficial channels on multiple platforms. On February 8, 2014, Nguyen announced on Twitter that the game was to be removed from both Apple's App Store and Google Play, writing: "I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore." He went on to say that taking down the game has "nothing to do with legal issues". The game was removed from both Apple's App Store and Google Play exactly on time, much to the dismay of many fans.Following the removal, many media outlets reported that several merchants on eBay were offering phones which had the app pre-installed for US$1,499 or more, with some receiving bids of over $90,000; however, the listings were removed for violating eBay's rule stating that smartphones must be restored to factory settings before being sold.In an interview with Forbes, Nguyen cited the game's addictive nature for its cancellation, stating: "Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it's best to take down Flappy Bird. It's gone forever." Nguyen said that the guilt that he felt over the game was affecting his sleep, and that his conscience was relieved after he took down the game.

I guess this is the de facto Manning thread so
its been over a week since ive let everyone who helped me out of prison down, so many of you have helped me thru tough times, i tried too hard to do too much, im sorry im a human being and not a symbol, i have hit rock bottom— Chelsea E. Manning (@xychelsea) January 30, 2018
― Simon H., Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:37 (eight years ago)
yeah i missed that whole controversy, what's going on? she was photographed laughing with McInnes and other alt-right dudes? was that it? if that's the case so what? I have the opportunity to vote for Chelsea & i should probably do my own research but here i am
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:41 (eight years ago)
there was an initial thing of her showing up to Cernovich's "to-do" (to "gather intel" according to her), which led to someone finding a pic of her from earlier coming out of an escape room with some alt-right people, which was obviously nagl
― Simon H., Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)
ok but what is the conclusion? that she's alt-right? the reaction seems so insane and over the top, I really don't understand what the issue is beyond a bad photo-op, but aren't people smart enough to realize bad photo-ops - "nagl"'s - have historically been used to smear people?
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:46 (eight years ago)
is flappy bird like angry birds or

not really, more like super mario
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:48 (eight years ago)
flappy bird can fly/has autonomy/isn't aggrieved. the angry birds are angry, flightless, and forced to launch themselves into objects and their enemies.
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:49 (eight years ago)
What is flappy bird's motovation if not anger

If you bought the flappy bird app, would you still have it, or would it have disappeared?

take these flappy wings and learn to fly
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:54 (eight years ago)
yeah for real. wtf did she do? anyone that says 'chelsea manning is cancelled' or whatever because of a fucking photo op deserves 8 years of trump
xxp you would still have it. that's why phones with it were selling for so much on ebay
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 19:55 (eight years ago)
flappy bird already knows how to fly
But that suggested it was phones with it pre-installed.
Also lol @ dude thinking he's in Snow Crash or some shit

Technically it was two photo ops...

I think the issue (which I don't really care about) is that this "photo op" came out, then people found out she had attended an alt-right convention supposedly to gather info. Then another photo appear from a different occasion (?) which showed her palling around with alt-right trolls. Then the trolls this to show how loving and accepting they are and did some concern trolling about how the leftists on twitter were attacking a trans woman.

I can imagine it impacting her senate campaign in a bad way, lol.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:27 (eight years ago)
I mean, even if you buy her explanations 100% - which I don't, btw - doing unannounced photo ops with fascists is a pretty big 'don't' for Dem senate candidates.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:30 (eight years ago)
People got really mad at the reporters for saying she was even there. Then she said yes she was there but protesting actually, now it’s that yes she was socializing with neo-nazis more than once but it’s spy work for the left. That’s the actual current explanation.
― Nerdstrom Poindexter, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:31 (eight years ago)
if you're really "lol"-ing over chelsea manning's misfortunes I question yr character tbh xp
― Simon H., Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:32 (eight years ago)
what do you think her reasons were then? not baiting just curious.
photos are a bad look but i find it really hard to believe that her entire political belief system 180'd overnight.

I was darkly laughing at flappy bird, but I'll admit to not feeling a ton of sympathy for her. She hurt a lot of people with her behaviour.

― President Keyes, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:39 (eight years ago)
I don’t believe she’s a neo-nazi and but seems possible she considers racism less of a big deal than other causes. Her tweets suggest more vaguely anti-establishment than left maybe and some were maybe assuming/projecting their own causes on to her. Adam Johnson said as much when he explained why he never embraced her candidacy. Some of the text exchanges w Fairbanks indicate she may have been co-opted.
― Nerdstrom Poindexter, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:46 (eight years ago)
She hurt a lot of people with her behaviour.
who is this referring to and is their hurt in any way comparable to seven years in a hole
― Simon H., Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:55 (eight years ago)
it's not a secret that some ppl on the left share interests w/ some ppl on the alt-right. they're both v critical of the american political class, both tend to group moderate dem politicians w/ republicans, both are skeptical of US militarism, both think Russiagate is a fake scandal designed to draw attention away from the embarrassment of losing to Trump, both seem to think that Trump is an interesting proxy for popular outrage (tho now we're reaching the limits of their agreement as it appears to me that the left does not support Trump policy and is critical of race demagoguing, whereas the alt-right is generally enthusiastic), both are skeptical/hostile towards the "deep state" (US intelligence), both are skeptical/hostile towards transnational trade agreements (TPP) and transnational political organizations (the EU)...
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:56 (eight years ago)
one could reasonably argue that they share more in common w/ each other than either share with the party that ostensibly represents their interests
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:57 (eight years ago)
only want wants to create a white ethnostate iirc, seems like a pretty major difference
― your skeleton is ready to hatch (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:58 (eight years ago)
I hope she rethinks her candidacy and tries to live a quiet life and heal from what she's experienced. the candidacy seems based on a cult of personality. she has no history of activism, organizing, campaigning. no connection to social or political movements. doing one laudable thing with horrendous personal consequences is, well, laudable, but it doesn't even begin to qualify you for political leadership (I'm well aware that what qualifies most people for these political positions in the states is money and connections but two wrongs don't make one right).
― khat person (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 20:59 (eight years ago)
xp correct, i mentioned that racial interests separate them. but that doesn't mean that there aren't areas of collaboration. there has been a taboo against working with nazis for many decades but the memory of WW2 is eroding, political language has become cheapened, and ppl are interested in new coalitions. it seems like there's still enough of a taboo that manning can be shamed for hanging over with the alt-right but i think the trends are probably heading in that direction. they'll differ on the ultimate goal but you know just bc israel doesn't believe jesus is returning doesn't mean they can't work w/ the evangelical right.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:00 (eight years ago)

ayy uhh do you have any evidence of the erosion of the taboo against nazism leading to closer links between nazis and the left over than a poorly judged picture opportunity of chelsea manning with some alt-right dipshits? cuz while both sides have indeed identified structural problems with us domestic and foreign policy the conclusions they draw and their suggested solutions share very very little iirc
― your skeleton is ready to hatch (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:05 (eight years ago)
Big difference imo is the alt-right’s skepticism is pretty dishonest. Some people on the right realized they needed to pretend to be anti-war following Iraq.

i haven't been tracking evidence but you see this kind of thing obliquely in The Intercept a lot, among its writers on twitter, and heavily in their comments threads. i think it could be the left will just refuse to work with the alt-right on anything due to ethical considerations and that would be wonderful but someone asked why manning would be at this event and i don't think it's crazy to think she was exploring whether they can work together.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:09 (eight years ago)
so... no

cf also like jill stein on RT, dining w/ Putin. i've seen a bunch of things that together suggest to me that there's something going on but i wouldn't argue that this is for sure 100% a thing that's happening. that's more an argument someone might make who is looking to discredit the left and tbh i think such an alliance would be pretty savvy for them and will take a lot of fortitude to resist.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:10 (eight years ago)
