i'm on it so i can read about how THE BIKE LANE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED because hits-and-runs have definitely increased since people in the city's richest neighborhood now have to park their cars in a place eight feet to the side from where they used to be and they are mad
― assawoman bay (harbl), Saturday, 20 January 2018 23:20 (six years ago) link
Lol we also have a brand new bike lane and the neighborhood is NOT HAVING IT. I mean look at this photo I snapped on a 15 degree day, see any bikers?
― IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Saturday, 20 January 2018 23:26 (six years ago) link
I am relatively neutral on biking myself but all the right people get angry at bike lanes, so i’m all for them

My other favorite thing is whenever someone announces that a new eatery is going in some vacant 350sf storefront someone inevitably says “what we really need is a supermarket.”

There's a half mile stretch of road that went from four lanes to two lanes (+ a turn lane) and I tell ya that change has just *ruined* the lives of everyone within a half mile radius. And they used to have such a nice neighborhood.

Another one is people complaining about the fact that they are demolishing the structure of a “historic” (ugly, dilapidated and outdated) Jewish community center TO BUILD A BETTER FACILITY.
It “goes back to the holocaust,” which I’m pretty sure did not take place in Queens.

We had a Savers thrift store close, in a location that had also hosted a Food 4 Less and a Budget Saver.
So obviously, Trader Joe's was the pick among the neighbors to replace it. Nevermind that currently the closest one to us is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Why not a location that couldn't even support three discount stores?

Had I known that Nextdoor was around the corner, I would've invested everything into Ring doorbell cameras.

I already mentioned the dead dog in the snow. This past month featured photographs of a dead puppy in a cardboard box that someone had dumped at the cemetery. And then there was the still-alive cat who was found with a massive head wound. That poster later came back and dared whomever it was that reported her to show their faces.

our latest big thread was people complaining about door to door energy salespeople and an actual guy who had the job for a few days explaining why he took the job (mostly bc poor, no transportation of his own to get a better one). it was sad.

Random guy at 1400 Uxxxx St asked me to make a quick call for him. I called XXX-XXX-XXXX with the speaker phone on. 'Katie' answered, and arranged to meet the guy outside as parents are home. 'Katie' asked the guy 'what do you need' to which the guy replied 'one,' at which point I cursed at the guy and hung up the phone. Guy kept walking up Uxxxx toward Cxxxxxx.Does anyone know this number or where they live so I can more effectively report this to the police?

Dog Tied to Tree?My neighbor has a dog tied to their tree. They work night shifts and I hate to disturb them so early but I also know, as animal lovers, they would not do this. EDIT: Just spoke with my neighbors. This is not their dog nor did they tie this dog up.
Is someone missing a dog?

We have a type of neighborhood watch, right now it’s me and 3 other people on Friday and Saturday 11pm to 5am and some of our older night owls who just watch from there darkened front windows, who call us.
Comment in response to a question about increased police activity in the neighborhood.

just had a lengthy neighborhood thread (deleted now): a woman said her son had found a corpse in a suitcase and was traumatized, and it took about fifty messages for someone else to chime in and say it was actually a live man sleeping *on* on ottoman. but that the guy who found him was indeed traumatized.
― omar little, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 05:56 (five years ago) link
the sleeping man was alive, but the Otto man was dead, right?
