Great way to make the paranoid more paranoid

A few weeks ago I mentioned the looming fear I've been feeling regarding Canada's legalization project. To be precise, I've had the hunch that we may end up in a society that's actually less free and more punitive than ever before. Case in point, the Quebec Landlords Association:

That's right, a whole new set of prohibitions, fines, injunctions, not to mention stronger enforcement of other laws as some sort of strange tit-for-tat on the part of the police.

In Montreal, you are 10 to 20 feet from someone who's smoking a joint at practically all times of day or night. In the dead of winter, at a bus stop across from a police station, emanating from the window of a seniors' retirement home, you name it. EVERYONE smokes cannabis in Quebec, EVERYONE.

It appals me that legalization threatens a status quo that's extremely tolerant. Or, perhaps, this is simply the opportunity that anti-drug conservative types have been waiting for. Legalize it, make buying it legally a typically Canadian over-regulated nightmare, then kick away the ladders on all the real freedom.

this is interesting. can landlords ban cigarette smoking in apartments? they can in the US, iirc. if so, how would banning marijuana smoking be any different?

i saw an infomercial on the morning of jan 1st in california where you could just pick up the phone and get some cbd (infused?) pills (i think they were pills) being marketed as some type of cure-all miracle drug

Oh man, my newage hippie sister-in-law is trying to set up a business selling CBD oil here in Maryland. She was openly doing this on FB the other day and telling people that it was legal because it didn't contain THC or something? It looks like the post has been taken down, so it must not have been without controversy.

CBD oil is legal in a lot of states, as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC iirc

some is "full spectrum," and contains everything from the hemp, some is "pure" and only contains CBD

the 0.3% cutoff is what distinguishes "hemp" from "marijuana," even tho they're the same plant (a fact I only recently learned)

I would think that the production of CBD oil would require licensing, testing and inspection at the state level.

same species, though, innit -- i spent years thinking that hemp was ~related~ but not actually the same plant as marijuana

xxp - the male/female thing is a myth, the difference in varieties is pretty much entirely the THC content

so there is definitely some sex differences, right? i understand sex is complex in cannabis but my friend, who grows his own stuff, i guess simplified it when he told me males produce really low levels of thc, so in order not to waste them, hemp is made out of them and also put into stuff like beer

while female buds provide the highest levels of thc and so are not used primarily for hemp, because they're harvested for their various high levels of thc. levels of thc diminish in other parts of the female plants

Only females can have the THC levels to get high (in the flowering buds) but industrial hemp grows have both male and female plants (that produce less than .3% in the US).

yea medical rollout has been a nightmare in boston. that was passed in 2012 iirc and dispensaries finally opened, what, last year?

a deviation from the topic here, but has anyone else noticed the increase in dispensaries securing their doors (like using a buzzer system). in the last week there was one guy who stole $120 by hitting decline on the debit machine and bolting and an armed gunman wearing a mask trying to get beyond the buzzer locked door.

I got certified for the NY MM program today after a rather desultory consult with a midtown Gastroenterologist!

Have now registered for a card on ny state website which will be mailed to me, hopefully damn soon. At which point I can do to the dispensary in union square.

One iffy point: he specified high-THC low-CBD and I was very much expecting the other way around?

yeah... in PA i can qualify for MM and i might do it for the novelty (and i guess to have the RX on hand in case i ever get stopped? unlikely) but it seems like it'll still be cheaper and easier to use other means of procurement

High THC/low CBD just means it's basically the same mix as anything you've ever used recreationally. If that has worked for your GE issues (Crohn's?) then you don't need to supplement CBD.

ah, in case of not being experienced, some CBD drops in advance (they have to be digested, and you need to take a fairly hefty amount - like 20-30mg+ of CBD at once) to dull possible anxiety from the THC is probably advisable.
