I don't know if much has changed over the year but it's such a crazy situation that it deserves a bit more coverage.

otm re philippines. if i listed a load of crazy despotic lunatics in world power and left off trump, within seconds someone somewhere would say “you forgot trump”. like anyone on the planet is able to forget that one orange bastard who’s basically the world’s loudest wallpaper.

Well at least today there is a fair bit of reportage on Trump's terrible domestic policies rather than what the cunt says on twitter. But I ignore him about 99% of the time.
― calzino, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 21:38 (six years ago) link
We don't really need to hear about Trump's terrible domestic policies is the argument I think.

well I did say I mostly ignore it. But when it is about solid policy, that has been voted through congress, it piques my interests for about 10 seconds.

this this this this this. so utterly utterly sick of our media covering america like we live there. we do not.
Can't we make some kind of trade where news of US politics never crosses US borders, and we here in the US never have to hear about the fucking British royal family ever again?

If there was an active Brit poster curated Royal Family thread on here, as opposed to the netflix series, you'd have something to really fucking moan about!

Really looking forward to the BBC drama series which takes a sympathetic look at the Trump presidency, helping to humanize the man and his family.

Really looking forward to the BBC drama series which takes a sympathetic look at the Trump presidency, helping to humanize the man and his family.the bbc has a similar problem to the abc here, which is to represent a really fucking awful person/concept/extremist movement as valid and sympathetic in some shitty government-appeasing false portrayal of “balance”. we just had a massive and unnecessary public vote postal survey to determine whether same-sex couples could get married, and the abc spent the whole time talking to fuckhead bigots like they were reasonable people with great ideas. it was fucking repugnant and has basically sealed my mistrust of all public broadcasters.

(xp) Let's try it. Our big national breaking story tonight is some prat resigning over porn on his computer, though he says it wasn't his porn and, anyway, he's not even resigning over that, he's resigning about lying about the fact that he knew the police had found someone else's porn on his computer.
― Whiney Houston (Tom D.), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 23:38 (six years ago) link
... also, it's just common or garden porn, as it were, not even bad stuff.
― Whiney Houston (Tom D.), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 23:41 (six years ago) link
Down with the Pornhuskers!
The BBC already tried an ill timed humanising May drama that disappeared without a trace after the election.

I agree generally, but in his particular case (and there are other examples), the medium had a huge role in the message.
