out of curiosity how does a HOOS feel about DSA? (I am not a member or uh american so it really is just curiosity)

Simon H., Tuesday, 12 December 2017 03:25 (eight years ago)

It's gone from a bookclub to a fighting organization. I think the way they're deliberately taking a variety of approaches, from serve the people programs to electoral ground game, is the best approach for an organization that wants to build its membership. Add to that that they're enabling great campaigns, and connecting everyday people with socialism as they change their brake lights, and I think they're doing powerful work.

You might say there's still the matter of settling on what socialism is, but that's part of the ride when you're building a big tent.

I'm a member & am relatively active with my local chapter--I lead an anti-eviction canvassing team as part of a larger campaign an old Occupy friend conceived.

Also their national staff rent space in my org's office & the outgoing Deputy Director is a good friend. He humors me by chatting about the week's Online DSA Gossip. Last week Amber was defending a woman who'd said she wanted to punch a member of the NPC in the face ("he's so condescending," she said). [The guy she was threatening happens to be a friend. So I stay a little salty at her I guess.]

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 03:56 (eight years ago)

Oh over the summer I helped organize a bunch of decentralized sit-ins--DSA was part of the coalition, which meant really meant DSA chapters. I was super impressed at how their chapters were able to turn out committed people for civil disobedience. The Cincy chapter are rad fuckin people--they did an overnight sit-in with a couple of folks in wheelchairs.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 03:59 (eight years ago)

that matches my outside perception of the good things they've been up to. I'd kill for Canada to have a big-tent org like that tbh

Simon H., Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:39 (eight years ago)

is there a canadian equivalent? this site was a disappointment: http://dsa.ca/

while my dirk gently weeps (symsymsym), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 09:57 (eight years ago)

lmao no, there really isn't. I even asked the good lawrence website about this once and all he could come up with was the NDP Socialist Caucus and Quebec Solidaire.

LOL DSA member on FOX & Friends says Roy Moore is unfit to be on an episode of Chapo Trap House, never mind a senator

Baba Booey 2.0 indeed

lol this is so reminiscent of the days when stern fans would trick a reporter into letting them say "baba booey" on live tv https://t.co/qRqAvcF1q3

Upon earlier viewing, I didn’t realize Virgil still had his huge flatscreen, game system, laptop, et al on the hardwood floor of his apartment like he was still an undergrad

Funny you mention that exact thing

Hey friends, circumstances have conspired such that I find myself alone in Virgil's apartment (don't ask why), time to start the roasting and pranking..

Unrelated to any of the current #discourse, does anyone know why Brandy Jensen ghosted from Twitter?

As the old line goes, elections have consequences

https://www.pscp.tv/w/1ypKdNNbmBpJW

I do have to say my favorite part of last night was Virgil openly speculating what the symptoms of toxoplasmosis are in human, as Matt would surely get it from touching cat fæces(provided by Will’s newly acquired tuxedo cat, Marty)

lol the Miyamoto basement photo

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 December 2017 00:20 (eight years ago)

What's the origin of the basement Gamecube picture?

JRN, Thursday, 14 December 2017 00:53 (eight years ago)

i dont know but ive seen it for years its for sure a gaming meme

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 December 2017 00:57 (eight years ago)

it's not even Miyamoto, it's Iwata!

Joan Digimon (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 14 December 2017 01:51 (eight years ago)

RIP Iwata-san, your visage will be displayed prominently in places of honor in every GameCube dungeon across the land

Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Thursday, 14 December 2017 02:39 (eight years ago)

the flow of conversation in this podcast feels very unnatural to me. @midnight was a terrible show that was obviously written, and this was highlighted by the question and answer format. comments in this show feel written in spite of them talking over each other. very happy to learn about gamecube dungeon, however.

crocus bulbotuber (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 14 December 2017 05:47 (eight years ago)

unlike @midnight, the conversation is at least hilarious at times

crocus bulbotuber (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 14 December 2017 05:49 (eight years ago)

Sometimes they reuse their own jokes from twitter, which might account for some of the written feeling.

Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Monday, 18 December 2017 21:44 (eight years ago)

yeah Seder honestly came off like another cohost, it was great

Folks, the Menaker/Garland beef is flowering on Twitter and if you take amusement in this sort of thing in any way, it's beautiful.

Simon H., Sunday, 24 December 2017 04:19 (eight years ago)

omg yes

flappy bird, Sunday, 24 December 2017 05:48 (eight years ago)

amber's point way back when the first GAME THEORY thread happened about Garland saying he was drinking craft beer and on iv adderall (?) has stuck with me- paraphrasing "dude you're just drunk and fucked up on drugs, don't make it sound classy"
