It does seem like there's "Twitter funny" which is different than regular funny, it's like you only laugh in this very deep interior part of your brain instead of out loud, but maybe still very hard.

I only follow two famous people: Limmy and Neil Cicierega. Works for me

I still have no idea how to use Twitter. If you follow hundreds of accounts, there's no way you read your whole timeline, so how do you pick and choose?

i follow like 200 ppl max and prune fairly often, also maybe only 80 of them are particularly prolific so my feed isn't that chaotic

also you just read whatever's recent that's what it's all about

i try to keep my following under 1000

yeah good point, there are all sorts of weird effects that cld happen faster scrolling more skipping/scanning etc

one thing on mastodon that's kind of cool to look at but would never work for something as big as twitter is the 'federated timeline' which is just a real-time firehose of every post on the network. like 3/4 of the posts on it are in japanese tho because the biggest mastodon instances are the ones for niconico and pixiv

i've been aggressively pruning my feed of moralist grandstanding, performative outrage, and basically anything that annoys me and now it's pretty boring and therefore much better. following a few accounts that have a greater reach and are quality retweeters (like lagoon) is enough for me. usually if something is particularly funny/good/weird it'll pop up in my feed eventually.

thx bud, i just started trying to eliminate the moral/sociological experts in my feed even tho theyre often informative its such a vibe killer

yeah otm i tend to follow professional people with specialized interests these days instead of ppl who feel the need to have an opinion on everything even if the opinions are “right”

yeah not RTs, it just shows me algorithmically selected tweets that people I follow have liked, not even RTed. if there's a way to turn it off it's well hidden since I can't find it

yesterday i unfollowed someone and the algo immediately showed me two of their tweets via the x and five others liked interface, trying to get me to change my mind lol

which must work some of the time, or they were just testing it

yeah a handful of the ppl i used to follow for jokes and general nonsense pivoted to posting mostly about politics in the wake of the election and i had to prune a lot of them. not because they werent aligned with my views but because i only want so many politics tweets in my timeline and for that id rather prioritize ppl w/ more experience talking about it and/or from marginalized groups, rather than internet jokesters-cum-pundits

i'm not gonna miss out on any good jokes about current events regardless, algorithms have ensured that

i must see half of all krang and pixelated boat tweets and i dont even want to

i'm also realizing that myabe the reason why im not seeing a ton of 280 char tweet is i have a lot of words muted and the longer a tweet is the more likely it contains one of them
