s1ocki, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

Nothing like that here.

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

gps tracker!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

OK - you NNW freaks officially need your own thread. Aren't there other cool apps we can talk about? Anyone using BeatMaker regularly?

schwantz, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)

Why bother? The free one's good enough.
I wanted the remember-where-you-are thingy, and I liked it enough that I want to pay the dude for it. All the reviews of other apps going "Ya totly awesum app but SHLD BE FREE one star" piss me off, but saying that, £6 is steep

stet, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

remember-where-you-are? What's that do?

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

New version of Frotz will extract .dat files from .zip files.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 28 August 2008 01:21 (seventeen years ago)

It keeps your place in a long document, which is v. handy

stet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 01:37 (seventeen years ago)

How does it integrate with things that use documents?

I'd check the app before asking but I don't know what it's called.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 28 August 2008 01:57 (seventeen years ago)

instapaper pay-for version = less-useful rip-off

i think it's more that the free one is so good, rather than that this one isn't worth $10. also in what way is it less useful? i'm finding it much more so (remembering place in document, deleting pages).

toby, Thursday, 28 August 2008 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

Frotz 1.0.1 is out and it extracts dats from zips. I just installed every compatible Infocom game, whoo.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 28 August 2008 05:53 (seventeen years ago)

yes rip-off is wrong, it just feels like much too much of the price is donation rather than for getting features.

I think it is less useful because of the honking great bar at the bottom to turn on tilt scrolling, which I don't like at all.

Jesus, mobile safari's keyboard is some laggy shit in 2.2

stet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

Tilt in Safari keeps not working.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 28 August 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

Air Sharing. Free. For a while. That is all.

J, Thursday, 11 September 2008 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

NNW latest release is hell of buggy.

BLONGE (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 11 September 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

Fucking Aurora Feint update screwed the game for me. Lost my character and i can't get past the initial game tutorial.

kingfish, Thursday, 11 September 2008 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for the Air Sharing tip! Nice little useful app.

schwantz, Thursday, 11 September 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

The 2.1 firmware prevents Frotz playing any games it didn't come with. I think this is an insurmountable fucking problem.

BLONGE (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 11 September 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

lol I was just coming here to post about Air Sharing

lol (HI DERE), Thursday, 11 September 2008 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

also lol at The Game app

lol (HI DERE), Thursday, 11 September 2008 03:17 (seventeen years ago)

air sharing and stanza are so good!!

hereinfereindryalin (cozwn), Thursday, 11 September 2008 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

OTM.

I wish there was an app to receive bluetooth files, but it's against the SDK rules.

-- (stet), Thursday, 11 September 2008 03:25 (seventeen years ago)

Which Twitter app is the best? I like Twitterrific but haven't looked at many of the others. Ned needs a good one.

html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

All the effing rules on the iPhone are weak. My Sony phone could tether, drag-and-drop mp3s in the finder/Windows Explorer, and copy files to and from the device over Bluetooth. iPhone? You have to use iTunes to manage MP3s, and god forbid you try to copy them FROM the iPhone (and I actually have MP3s that I CREATED and have copyright for), no tethering allowed, and no bluetooth file management. Plus, no USB file storage. It's weak.

schwantz, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

Did you actually think this was going to be different from the last 4 years of Apple mobile products? STFU & take it here: I HATE APPLE

html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

Not that I didn't BUY one... It's more of a love/hate thing.

schwantz, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

its like having a gifted child who just wont try

Bright Future (sunny successor), Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

actually i'm a little fed up with the way my iphone handles email--

it takes forever to download the headers, and then sometimes even longer to download the message content. anyone else experience this? (i'm still on the edge iphone)

lately i've been yearning for the days of instant blackberry email. shiiit.

cutty, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't noticed on my iphone. But the way the text messages look is AWESOME. I do mind the automatic spelling checker. :-( Half the time I don't notice so it switches words. Other than that, it ROCKS. I have an iphone. YAY.

stevienixed, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, cutty is otm abt the loading times of on iphone e-mail

there's so much wrong with it, but it's still by far and away the best phone/electronics I've ever owned

thanksbutnothanksonthatbridgetonowhere (cozwn), Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

search: the style.com app which is very well done

NNW latest release is hell of buggy

it's fucked. so much so i've just downgraded to, er, version 1.0.7 (no idea where 1.0.8 went off my HD, but hey). the biggest problem is not removing read items/feeds from the list ... i know some people didn't like the scorched-earth way it did that, and i guess that's why it was nice there was a little menu to control how long things stuck around. only, er, it DIDN'T WORK.

there's a lot of moaning here; apparently a new version has already been sent to apple for upload to the app store, but fuck knows when that'll happen :)

large hardon collider (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 11 September 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Byline FTW.

-- (stet), Thursday, 11 September 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

How do you downgrade apps, btw?

-- (stet), Thursday, 11 September 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

stet -- right click on app, reveal app in finder and then replace copy in iTunes hierarchy with copy from yr time machine backup

html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

this was a bit more awkward as the name of the .ipa file was different. but deleting the new one, then doing an apple-I on the app in iTunes and telling it where to look for the old one (ie in, er, the same folder) worked fine.

large hardon collider (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

oh top, thanks.

-- (stet), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

Ta Grimly.

Plus, no USB file storage. It's weak.

How much does a USB stick cost these days?

BLONGE (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

oh cool, it keeps old versions of the .ipa!?!!!!

html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:19 (seventeen years ago)

i guess it's only kept the old version because the new one had a slightly different name (ie has 1.0.9 on the end) so didn't overwrite. that'd explain where 1.0.8 went, i guess.

large hardon collider (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

the email bugs me too--cant tell if its the network or the phone but its slow and it doesnt really "push" the mail

♠♣♥♦¾ (max), Thursday, 11 September 2008 21:55 (seventeen years ago)

Whoever suggested style.css ON IPHONE gets one (1) free sexing from me.

BLONGE (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 11 September 2008 22:37 (seventeen years ago)

Don't get the latest 2 Across if you want LA Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, or AARP crosswords. They're being removed in the latest update.

Mackro Mackro, Friday, 12 September 2008 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

2 Across is several dollars well spent.

BLONGE (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 12 September 2008 03:22 (seventeen years ago)

This latest NNW is worse than I thought. It's actually unuseable.

You touched me officer, sorry (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 12 September 2008 12:49 (seventeen years ago)

haha what else is new.

s1ocki, Friday, 12 September 2008 13:03 (seventeen years ago)

♠♣♥♦¾ (max), Friday, 12 September 2008 13:34 (seventeen years ago)
