seriously though, what would have been a non-bullshit way to summarize and refer to complaints about said behavior? I honestly didn't intend that to be an "edgy" word choice

autism is a real thing and using it as a zing against ppl whose content or posting style you dislike is offensive. i also FP any reference to asperger's done in this way, for the same reason. thankfully i feel like, as with the r-word, they've been on the decline around these parts. good poster, bad post.

No, I was using it to describe content and posting styles that resemble behavior of someone on the Autism Spectrum. No like/dislike involved. Just descriptive.

I'm apologizing because I can see now how it could easily be interpreted as a pejorative, zingy post ... even though I didn't intend it as a pejorative, just as a description

For me, I don't think of obsessive, list-making behaviour as stereotypically "autistic" - particularly as understanding of the spectrum (and gender differences within it) has developed, it doesn't ring true, and seems reductive to the point of offensiveness. Putting it on a thread like this definitely makes it read as a zingy put-down, but even if it were somewhere else I'd still feel very uneasy about it.

Also the dual edge of pathologising personality traits/diminishing difficulties that people with disorders actually have to live with. It's just... not good.

(I'm sure other people can put this stuff better than me, but those are the things that stick out to me.)

and my point was merely, to complain about "obsessive, list-making behaviour" in the context of a thread where people make lists and then compile them and discuss the results, is a bit absurd. And I have been guilty of that complaining in the past, and I am aware of the absurdity of my past behavior.

i guess "obsessive", "trainspottery", "filing", "stamp-collecting", "nerdy" i use in different contexts to try and do the job of describing compulsive nit-picky cataloguing but none of them are perfect. something to do with Pokemons might work. or killing butterflies.
