did they make 280 universal now?
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 01:02 (eight years ago)
280 is really, really bad. Scanning my TL my eyes ignore the 280s automatically. For twitter they are literally tl;dr
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 14:46 (eight years ago)
i love it

Same.
I'd be willing to invest $5 in a code that filters out any tweet with more than 140 characters.
Hell, make it 150.

dear twitter, 280 characters is violence
love, bizarro gazzara xox
― drinkmaster sealcup at yr service (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)
Otm. To show good will I can get behind PP's suggestion of 150, but the 280s seem to lead mostly to hot takes served more slowly. They're dragging (me down).
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:13 (eight years ago)
you can't train people to communicate in 140 characters or fewer and then suddenly double it - a cursory glance at the madness being unleashed now across twitter dot com will tell you that
mr twitter, put back up those walls
― drinkmaster sealcup at yr service (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:16 (eight years ago)
Thank you mookieproof for saving me $5.
― pplains, Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:25 (eight years ago)
If you use tweetbot, you can mute everything over 140

Twitterrific lets you limit by length too
― stet, Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:29 (eight years ago)
brb gonna filter out tweets of longer than four characters
― drinkmaster sealcup at yr service (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:32 (eight years ago)
OK, /1

― nashwan, Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:36 (eight years ago)
the single good thing about twitter was it forced people to edit themselves, look at this monstrosity that prob wldve been good in the 140 era
*wife shakes me awake in the middle of the night* me: w-what happenedwife: you were talking in your sleep. kept muttering goth this and goth thatme: like what, specificallywife: like death is goth life and blackberries are goth raspberriesme:[taking notes] oh these are good— wylde de beest (@flashember) November 9, 2017

There’s actually something folkloric in the Twitter founders’ utter inability to understand the true nature of their creation— Vann R. Newkirk II (@fivefifths) November 7, 2017
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:59 (eight years ago)
it doesn't even work visually, the eye can process the 140s almost instantly, now you have all these self-important bores who wish they were journalists and their huge blocks of text.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:00 (eight years ago)
the good news is after years of trying they mightve actually found the thing that kills the website
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:03 (eight years ago)
still pretty bummed out at all the Nazis getting blue checkmarks
― frogbs, Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:08 (eight years ago)
one thing im surprised twitter hasnt done which wld also be awful is building a verification system for all real name accounts and then having tool that allow u to say only receive notifications from verifieds, the situation where verifieds are celebrities seems bad for them and if everyone cld get verified it wld control some of the nastiness that ppl dont like abt the site and it wldnt be making celebrities of nazis, also banning nazis wld be good imho
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:16 (eight years ago)
kinda sounds like keybase's web of trustish thingy
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:18 (eight years ago)
i still can't get over how horrible "weird twitter" got once it went mainstream
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 9 November 2017 16:20 (eight years ago)
If by horrible you mean painfully unfunny, then yes. And that includes ilx0rs fave @dril.

They’ve stopped verifying any new accounts until they do what lagoon says
― stet, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:17 (eight years ago)
you should lose your blue check mark if you change your display name imo. Seeing sometime with a random joke pun name and Verified is pretty ??? like what is the purpose of the system
― ciderpress, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:21 (eight years ago)
heh thats a good own to the system
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:26 (eight years ago)
the only good thing about verified is that it made julian assange so mad that he's not verified that he added a little blue diamond to his name to make people think he's verified
― 龜, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:26 (eight years ago)
a boo check mark for scarified accounts
― The Suite Life of Jack and Wendy (wins), Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:28 (eight years ago)
i tried adding all sorts of check mark gliphs to my name and they thought of that lol hence asanges sad blue diamond
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:41 (eight years ago)
having posts in your timeline from people you don't follow and having no way to turn it off is by far the worst thing they've done, 280 is no big deal in comparison imo
― ciderpress, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:48 (eight years ago)
Other than from people rt'ing ppl you don't follow? I've never experienced that tbh.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:49 (eight years ago)
yeah not RTs, it just shows me algorithmically selected tweets that people I follow have liked, not even RTed. if there's a way to turn it off it's well hidden since I can't find it
― ciderpress, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:52 (eight years ago)
That sounds awful. I've never seen that (using tweetbot mostly tho)
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:53 (eight years ago)
do you mean the tweets that your followers have liked? because I hate that.
xp yeah

― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:06 (eight years ago)
buddy they wont even let me fuck the tweet
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:09 (eight years ago)
It does seem like there's "Twitter funny" which is different than regular funny, it's like you only laugh in this very deep interior part of your brain instead of out loud, but maybe still very hard.

I only follow two famous people: Limmy and Neil Cicierega. Works for me
― imago, Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:11 (eight years ago)
Don't think Neil C is a great follow tbh
― The Suite Life of Jack and Wendy (wins), Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:13 (eight years ago)
he brings good content imo and isn't problematic?
― imago, Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:14 (eight years ago)
he's alright, he just spreads himself out through like 7 different platforms so don't expect a whole lot
