Is the Modern Radio message board really just gone? Lot of funny threads on there, shame if it's disappeared
― Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 05:33 (six years ago) link
I think it's gone for good. It's really a shame. It would probably still be going if the previous board software had remained viable, or if whatever they migrated it to had worked better (rather than being a buggy, spambot-ridden disaster). Of course, running it was a thankless, unpaid task to begin with, so it's understandable. But I'll miss it forever. It was the greatest.

I would have thought that was the kind of community that would naturally transfer over to a facebook group, but even it if did, I wouldn't know how to find it.

I think there was a thread on there about prolific local Yelper Rhonda G., and I wanted to find the examples of her best work.

anyone have opinions on the mpls mayor race? i don't mind hodges one bit, frey and hoch give me the willies and i'm hearing stuff about how dehn is a simply awful human so i might just put pounds at #1 to scare the MPD and put hodges second and leave it at that
― global tetrahedron, Sunday, 29 October 2017 18:08 (six years ago) link
Strib endorses Frey, and their stated reason for doing so is that Hodges wouldn't give Major League Soccer a tax abatement!
(ofc it's actually because of Police Department fiascoes)
― it me, Sunday, 29 October 2017 20:05 (six years ago) link
Honestly think Hodges is being successfully ratfucked, like there's Koch money or something funding the weirdly loud and insistent anti-Hodges drumbeat. Everyone else in the race is either a corporate stooge or a fucking wacko
― Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 23:35 (six years ago) link
Pounds is the poster child for fucking wacko, btw

I forgot all about it this year, but I really like Naomi Kritzer's posts about local politics (e.g. minneapolis mayoral race) and tend to agree with her candidate preferences. https://naomikritzer.com

According to that blogger, one of my three votes went to a Republican. Oh well. City council (who wields more power anyway) looks to have swung even further to the left so it's all good.

i have on decent authority that the dehn stuff that was out there was the tip of the iceberg, and frankly I wasn't crazy about Frey but being a douche isn't a crime

Didn’t want to get too in the Mn weeds in the Weinstein thread, but suzy’s post there made me want to Google and check up on past Children’s Theater School offenders.
Didn’t realize that Jason McLean - owner of Varsity Theater, Loring Pasta Bar, Loring Cafe (where I spent time and did plays in the 90s), is on the run:

The Midwest is, in fact, fairly frequently written about, but almost always in a way that weirdly disclaims the possibility that it has ever been written or thought about before.
