Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 23 October 2017 18:57 (eight years ago)

xp What? I'm not supposed to be curious about what other ilxors who are in their thirties have to say?

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 23 October 2017 19:01 (eight years ago)

Just teasing!

Evan, Monday, 23 October 2017 19:03 (eight years ago)

Watch your step, young man, or I'll start posting to this thread.

Evan, Monday, 23 October 2017 19:09 (eight years ago)

two months pass...

jealous of the 40s thread. I felt weirdly anxious about my 20s ending but now I feel what seems like a healthy mixture of pleasure and nothing at all about being in my 30s. mb it's being around older people more at work and in general but I'm very aware of how young ppl are and how foolish & pretentious ppl can be about their age. all the performative grumbling and loling about how I'm not like I was in 2007 anymore!!! seems ridiculous and ofc immature. I half wish ppl wld enjoy their youth (or at least enjoy not suffering from age) less self-consciously but also, as I've finally (I think) reached the point of no longer thinking there is anyone who isn't full of it at least some of the time, I feel more indulgent towards the ways in which ppl are. (sometimes, a bit, depending on my mood).

ogmor, Thursday, 4 January 2018 11:03 (eight years ago)

People in their mid-20s who do that performative 'Oh I'm so old, I can't do this, I can't do that, I'm just going to start wearing a shawl and doing crosswords on a Saturday night' do drive me a bit potty. Even in my late-20s I felt too immature and unqualified for a whole bunch of 'adulting' activities.

FREEZE! FYI! (dog latin), Thursday, 4 January 2018 12:14 (eight years ago)

I’m just posting because I’m still 39 2/3rds and not interested in the 40+ thread. yo yo yo breakdancing etc.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 4 January 2018 12:21 (eight years ago)

word to that, I'm 40 in April, I'll be breakdancing non-stop until then

Thomas NAGL (Neil S), Thursday, 4 January 2018 12:23 (eight years ago)

Don't be spinning on your heads, it might be one of the causes of male pattern baldness.

calzino, Thursday, 4 January 2018 12:47 (eight years ago)

I'm terrifically bald and have been considering the full skinhead for a while but keep putting it off cos big fat head.

Ppl in their twenties who complain about being old don bother me why the fuck would they. DL you are in your thirties stop paying attn to these vermin

remember the lmao (darraghmac), Thursday, 4 January 2018 12:53 (eight years ago)

breakdancing update: back has gone, having to lie down, roll on my 40s

Thomas NAGL (Neil S), Thursday, 4 January 2018 13:02 (eight years ago)

I definitely felt like I was getting old in my twenties. Hangovers got worse, going from studying to jobbing was horrible, social circle became smaller as friends got kids and I just didn't meet that many new people anymore. Horrible time. My early thirties, conversely, are quite okay, I'm biking a lot, I'm taking a bit more care of myself, having a bit more success on my job, really prioritizing my hobbies and not doing a thousand other things. I feel much younger than I used to :)

Frederik B, Thursday, 4 January 2018 14:20 (eight years ago)

That's all otm too

Twenties is horrible

remember the lmao (darraghmac), Thursday, 4 January 2018 14:30 (eight years ago)

exercising has definitely helped with keeping me cool in my 30s (says the guy who hasn't been to the gym in two weeks)

FREEZE! FYI! (dog latin), Thursday, 4 January 2018 14:31 (eight years ago)

yea you hit a wall at 23 where you realize your metabolism can't keep up with your shit lifestyle anymore and then another wall at 28 when you find you can't quite make it to bar close and sleep until 3 PM like you used to

frogbs, Thursday, 4 January 2018 14:57 (eight years ago)

adjust ages accordingly for biology and required office hours

mh, Thursday, 4 January 2018 15:10 (eight years ago)

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:41 (seven years ago)

wait, what are we counting as late 30s now?

feel like I may have committed the Whiney generalization where he was claiming to be "nearly 40" at the tender age of 36 now

mh, Monday, 2 July 2018 14:43 (seven years ago)

well i mean 36 is blatantly mid

the last famous poster you were surprised to discover was actually (darraghmac), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:45 (seven years ago)

otm

I guess 37.5 and up is definitively late

mh, Monday, 2 July 2018 14:49 (seven years ago)

the last famous poster you were surprised to discover was actually (darraghmac), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:50 (seven years ago)

I am reading Walt Whitman rn. He wrote “Song of Myself” when he was 37. I read the latest Harry Potter play, for work, and he is 37 at its start. It made me wonder: is 37 the accepted halfway point? If so, I’m sort of okay with how things have turned out.

rb (soda), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:51 (seven years ago)

xp we're practically youth

mh, Monday, 2 July 2018 14:52 (seven years ago)

looking at the pension, presuming 67 is the retirement age, id like 10 active years minimum to enjoy that.

77

the last famous poster you were surprised to discover was actually (darraghmac), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:54 (seven years ago)

35 is the halfway point of the traditional threescore years and ten I guess. Time for your allegorical journey through hell!

devops mom (silby), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:58 (seven years ago)

yeah but we all live to 95 now so we can compare pancreatic cancers afaict

the last famous poster you were surprised to discover was actually (darraghmac), Monday, 2 July 2018 14:58 (seven years ago)

I've been thinking of life in terms of youth/adult plateau/senility where you're on the upswing for the first, relatively stable and living out the bulk of your years, and then a slight decline in the last part that echoes the lesser independence of youth and reliance on others

both of my grandfathers passed last year after spending some time in assisted living homes, though, so that may be weighing on my reasoning

mh, Monday, 2 July 2018 15:00 (seven years ago)

I guess 37.5 and up is definitively late

34. Preferred 33 when I was the age of Christ when he died. Everything seemed to be looking up then

Garden variety uncouth (Ross), Monday, 2 July 2018 15:53 (seven years ago)

As Tom Lehrer once said, “when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for four years”

devops mom (silby), Monday, 2 July 2018 15:55 (seven years ago)
