slightly hard for me to judge cos i binge-watched the first two seasons whilst high but i haven't really been watching it for lulz since then, just enjoying the stories

Y'all crazy. Season 3 was good as hell, except for the relatively limp finale -- which tbf seemed to be teeing up a specific narrative arc for S4

The finale was funny, just not at the level of the previous episodes. I might have liked it a little more than most because I freakin love Keith David as the President

there were some really, really lame and labored jokes in those first two seasons...even 'total rickall' which is one of my favorite episodes, just lazy shit like 'ooohhh i get it like the butler did it' that fills like time filler more than an actual punchline

i never really died laughing as i did during some of the best moments of s1&2. maybe i should have said powerLOLs qua hoos. still funny and good but i kept waiting to lose my shit at something. maybe the teaser e1 is the only exception. still think it was good, my xp is similar to NV's

And yes, s03e10 was a dip but I've enjoyed the stories this season a huge amount. Pickle Rick FTW.

I really think this season was a noticeable step down. Still enjoyable creative, but I’m going full episodes without a single chuckle. I guess ppl here mostly think it’s better than ever, but yeah, definitely disagree.

Also I kinda hated Pickle Rick and how it seemed to be consciously designed to be a catch phrase/action figure/mascot or whatever. And the ~darkness~ this season seemed strangely forced.

Felt like season 3 was real hit or miss and honestly just too misanthropic at times for my own tastes. hopefully season 4 is a little lighter.

s4e2 is a mix of "life means nothing" and relentless scatalogical humor, so maybe skip that one

I think about the awfulness of Rick a lot but then I remember how many other cartoon assholes I enjoy and I kinda don't care what the writerly intentions are, I have to see him as a portrait of a shitbag and probably a critique of a section of the fanbase

the show pretty explicitly criticizes rick. i know there's this media critique that even condemning some sorts of behavior valorizes + promotes them nonetheless just by portraying them (all those shows where you identify with tony soprano or malcolm's dad) but i don't know how the show could do more to demonstrate that they think rick's ideology is hollow and empty and leads to a life of misery?

Enjoyed it but it felt weirdly rushed somehow? It rarely makes me lol anyway, it's a different kind of pleasure. Still v happy there's new stuff.

loved the most recent ep, think it's the best this season. pretty much every aspect of the snake planet made me laugh. good Jerry plot too

the silent snake planet sci-fi movie satires were pretty great

Easily my favorite of the season, maybe my all-time favorite R&M episode. "Snake jazz" killed me.

best part was all the snakes watching in awe as Hissler's palace overflows with time travelling snake corpses

i came with "Hissler" on my own, btw.

I thought the heist episode (this season) was really funny and I also thought the dragon episode was funny. I mean, they've all been funny so far.

just saw my first ep of this, the heist ep, that was some silly funny shit. i’m rather mystified by who the audience is tho, references are old and rapid. if i existed in 2014 when thred started i’d have like 6 years of viewing by which to suss it out.

I don't get some of the references and I'm older than most of the viewing audience, so I imagine much of the audience doesn't either. The sheer volume of stuff - plot, dialogue, visuals, and gags - means it's still enjoyable even if you miss some things

That said, I am a little surprised the show is as popular as it is

I think they threw in too many ephemeral goods (boglins, ecto-coolers, etc.) this season to avoid future mulan sauce incidents, where fanatics went after the single ephemeral good they mentioned.
