i know i'm one of the only people on ilx who watches *how i met your mother* on a regular basis, but did anyone else see the robin sparkles episode? where robin didn't want people to know that she had

i have no idea what arrest dev-ish means (i mean i know what it means but they invented fake movie gags or something?) but that was definitely my biggest laugh of the episode

Trade bimble for ethan? (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

wellll obv they didnt "invent" fake movie poster gags - pretty sure that was seinfeld - but the way the joke was constructed and the quick flash to a shot of the poster with v/o instead of just having it as a prop in the background or w/e seemed v. "in the style of" to me

(Palm) springs sprungs (Lamp), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

It's true, Arrested Development definitely mastered the fake movie/poster gag, from Les Cousins Dangereux
to "I just want my kids back!"

The Old Man and The Sea > The Young Man and The Sea starring Jude Law > The Young Man on the Beach - A+

Call out (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

I was having some doubt last week about where they were heading with this, but damn if this wasn't a pretty awesome season finale.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I thought the whole thing was amazing. Especially the New Pornographers.

Mordy, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

Especially the New Pornographers.

Wait, waht?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 19 May 2009 01:35 (seventeen years ago)

I was a little sleepy while watching, but weren't they playing TNP near the end of the episode?

Mordy, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't been able to find a copy yet to make sure... am I wrong?

Mordy, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 02:02 (seventeen years ago)

Ok. Rewatched. Apparently it was A.C Newman's "Prophets." Lol @ same difference.

Mordy, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

yeah best episode in ages.

"remember. "Baaa means baaaa.""

Roz, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 03:39 (seventeen years ago)

and SVEN!

Roz, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 03:41 (seventeen years ago)

Great episode, and yeah I thought that sounded a lot like the NP, but didn't recognize the song. Now it all makes sense.

Funnily enough, I basically gave Lily's leap speech to one of my former students today. Am I cheeseball for thinking this show is pretty OTM about life lessons and all? It's all pretty obvious stuff, I guess, but well it all rings true somehow.

Super Cub, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 07:29 (seventeen years ago)

i suppose they're OTM if life has worked out for you

hah nah seriously the show is ridiculously optimistic. but i enjoy it anyway

Nhex, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 07:57 (seventeen years ago)

Ted's leap (stunt double?) was the best by far. Cleared it and then some.

Jouster, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 09:13 (seventeen years ago)

For the last time, I am not Linda Knievel, and I will ever be Linda Knievel!

TynanDaNdy (some dude), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 13:48 (seventeen years ago)

awesome episode. really loved the ending. what a sap this show makes us.

btw, can we change the thread title once and for all? it's kind of annoying. sorry scott.

cutty, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

I know it was just TV, but doing a leap like that in real life would have scared the hell out of me, especially considering one could likely die if you fell down from a roof. A great ending nonetheless.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

robin double mosbying barney was pretty great, too

i still dont get how this links back to that episode that ended w/ him meeting up w/ stella again and saying 'and if i hadnt seen her that day i never would have met yr mother'. is there any connection?

just sayin, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 08:38 (seventeen years ago)

didn't he get the professor job through the connections of Stella's boyf?

la belle dame sans serif (c sharp major), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 08:47 (seventeen years ago)

and el mother is in the class he teaches. ergo important.

really hoping they don't steal from those rubbish episodes of friends when ross dated a student.

o yeah the professor thing! that's what it is

i kinda hate the barney robin relationship and i thought it was handled really well here

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

Marshall is a so much better character when they let him go a little gonzo, like the "I WILL NEVER EAT RIBS AGAIN ... IN FRONT OF TED" line and all his preparations for jumping.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

next season better start with them stuck on that roof waiting for the owner of the apt to get home, and not with them laughing it up at the restaurant with no explanation

da croupier, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 11:54 (seventeen years ago)

"btw, can we change the thread title once and for all? it's kind of annoying. sorry scott."

don't look at me, i was drunk when i started this thread, and i don't speak for "the other scott".

plus, i just figured that ilx was too snooty for this show and that this thread would disappear forever.

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:48 (seventeen years ago)

also, can you really get "let's go to the mall" for your cellphone????

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:49 (seventeen years ago)

You can at least convert the mp3 of it to a ringtone, I would gather.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

i kinda love this thread title

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

ditto!

da croupier, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

Length of thread title makes it easy to spot in New Answers. That's a plus.

Super Cub, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

thread is just unpopular enough to make a good bookmark, and it'll likely be dead until september now, so you might as well do it now

Nhex, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

The title of the show is kinda lame. It's only befitting the that this thread title be kinda lame

I've been watching Undeclared so I am jonesing for some Marshall!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 17 September 2009 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

Guys. Is it just me, or has the writing gone way, way, way downhill? Please tell me I just watched a bum copy of the season premiere, and that this hasn't just become the worst sitcom on television. :'(

Mordy, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 05:31 (sixteen years ago)

That's um, a bit overdramatic, I think. It was okay but lacking a bit, I guess. And for goodness sakes, have you seen what's on the air a half hour later? (though I didn't stick around for the Jenna Elfman show, so that could have been even worse)

Nhex, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 06:04 (sixteen years ago)

I guess I'm just really in shock. I felt like the writing really tanked, and it sounded like they even turned the laugh track way up.

Mordy, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 06:06 (sixteen years ago)

I was looking forward to it, and I couldn't even finish the episode

Mordy, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 06:07 (sixteen years ago)

Really? I thought it was hilarious

Girls, meet team; team, meet girls (hmmmm), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 07:32 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think we've ever got as far as even season two on british tv. first was shown twice on the bbc (bbc3 then bbc2) and now e4(?) is showing them again from the beginning. my absolute favourite episode of season one, Drumroll Please, is on tonight as it happens. hopefully they will continue onto the later seasons when they've finished with the first.

koogs, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 09:35 (sixteen years ago)

I thought it sucked a bit and I agree on the laughtrack thing. It still had good points (lol whip) but I think they just need a bit of time to sort out the new dynamics of the group, especially after spending most of last season without the girls and now Robin is in a relationship with a new Barney and Ted's going to get a new girlfriend, it's going to take a bit of time. Also be glad to see the end of Lily obsessing over Robin/Barney.

Also, is the mother an economics student? Because I guess that at least avoids the cliche of sleeping with a girl in yr class.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 10:17 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, it wasn't the greatest episode, but ted teaching was pretty funny. big bang theory was better last night. i really should start a seperate BBT thread, but i don't know if anyone would care. then again, i didn't think anyone would care about this thread...

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:12 (sixteen years ago)

xp yeah, she was in the economics class. though if she turns out to be an undergrad it's still a bit creepy. i admit i laughed at the PROFE bit

as much as i hate that show, i think a BBT thread would get enough attention to warrant it (that is, just enough)

Nhex, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

last night was pretty funny to me. i try to live in the moment and laugh or not at what's in front of me, although really how many shows can you say were still at to the top of their game by the 5th season anyway? if it's a mild decline in quality i can live with that.
