This convention was extremely small and tame compared to what they have now, which looks like the deepest pit of hell to me. Now you can chase down collectibles while muscling your way through a massive mob of cosplayers or wait endlessly in line to have some kind of geek hero worship experience.

None of these are features of the conventions I mentioned.

I've been to Star Wars Celebration four times. One's experience of a con is what they make of it -- my first time I had no idea what to expect and came out kinda miserable. But you have to pick and choose. Want to sleep overnight in a line to be the first to see a trailer or a panel? Great! Go nuts! I did that ten years ago, don't want to do it anymore. Want to scramble to be the first to get an exclusive collectible? You can do that, or not. I did that with one (1) item I wanted at the last con, and I was in line for maybe 20 minutes. You can just walk around and look at some of the hard work that goes into costumes/cosplay, or hang and talk to other fans, or attend the smaller panels, whatever you want to do. At this most recent SWC, they had a room that was literally just showing episodes of "Star Wars: Rebels" all day and you could sit in there if you wanted.

Cosplay just = people having fun. Not my kind of fun, but I dunno.. It's fandom, and fandom shows itself in different ways and through different demographics. Not going to start demonising that just because a few kids acted like buffoons in a restaurant. Was it just this counter-top guy or did it get worse?

yeah I know some pretty amiable and chill folks who occasionally cosplay. that said...

when I see things like current fans harassing McDonald's employees for not having some special dipping sauce, my first reaction is always "who broke you?" and it's rare that I have a second one

my only convention experience was Walker Stalker, and I only went because Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill were there. My son was a huge fan of Matt Smith's Doctor so we sprung for the autographs. Those three are very lovely and friendly people who were super nice to my 8 year old. But the lines were terrible and this was a really small convention. My son wants to go to san diego comic-con but I don't know if I can handle it.

jesus fucking christ, Harmon's twitter oubursts have got me shook. I've certainly heard he's an asshole before but never really cared enough to investigate that since I didn't think it had any relevance to my enjoyment of his shows. but damn, I mean...this motherfucker is something else.

was watching norm macdonald's interview with sarah silverman, she said the reason harmon left The Silverman Show was "there's only room for one genius asshole on this show and it's gotta be me, i'm in the title"

Harmon has always been more of an asshole than he is talented

I give most of the credit for R&M's goodness to Roiland (who based on the union fracas is almost certainly also an asshole)

Based on that union thing and not knowing much else I assumed Harmon was probably the better of the two, but accidentally reading some of his self-consciously eccentric twitter word stew for ~5 seconds the other day had me wanting to escape my own skin

he was arguing on twitter with someone who pointed out that his "mcdonald's ripped us off with this unofficial promotion" stance was a little rich given that R&M is just edgy-nerd Back to the Future

Faster than you can say, “Oh god, Rick would hate this,” she snatched up the trade, netting a new used car, while the car’s former owner got the warm satisfaction of knowing they’ve now become a new milestone in the fields of obsessive, potentially toxic fandom. (Meanwhile, McDonald’s has said it’s bringing the sauce back, some time soon, so all the food-goo profiteers out there had better be sure to prepare their garage or driveway for all the new wheels they’ll certainly soon be bringing home.)

from the scraps of info I pick up harmon is a massive kingmaker (the other one being scott aukerman) in LA wrt to comedians getting on shows and writing credits and all that shit... im sure this great power has given him great responsibility. lol jk.

No, they came off like a corporation who misjudged the scope and execution of a marketing opportunity. The only monsters were the fans.

(Obviously McD's *is* a monster in all other respects outside of this situation but that's another matter)

My take is McDonalds wanted news footage of people stomping up and down demanding McDonalds products. Rick and Morty fans got played.

"These people who sell poison food to people, they're going to be fair dealers to us! We're RICK AND MORTY fans, after all!"

I feel the exact opposite, last episode aside I think it's way more consistent and tighter than any other season

slightly hard for me to judge cos i binge-watched the first two seasons whilst high but i haven't really been watching it for lulz since then, just enjoying the stories

Y'all crazy. Season 3 was good as hell, except for the relatively limp finale -- which tbf seemed to be teeing up a specific narrative arc for S4

The finale was funny, just not at the level of the previous episodes. I might have liked it a little more than most because I freakin love Keith David as the President

there were some really, really lame and labored jokes in those first two seasons...even 'total rickall' which is one of my favorite episodes, just lazy shit like 'ooohhh i get it like the butler did it' that fills like time filler more than an actual punchline

i never really died laughing as i did during some of the best moments of s1&2. maybe i should have said powerLOLs qua hoos. still funny and good but i kept waiting to lose my shit at something. maybe the teaser e1 is the only exception. still think it was good, my xp is similar to NV's

I really think this season was a noticeable step down. Still enjoyable creative, but I’m going full episodes without a single chuckle. I guess ppl here mostly think it’s better than ever, but yeah, definitely disagree.

Also I kinda hated Pickle Rick and how it seemed to be consciously designed to be a catch phrase/action figure/mascot or whatever. And the ~darkness~ this season seemed strangely forced.
